The Construction Field Engineer is responsible for supporting construction field execution by facilitating the RFI process, assisting with technical installation questions, create subcontract and direct hire work packages, estimating change orders, ordering materials, and assisting with field progress updates.
Construction Field Engineers report directly to the Construction Site Manager or Project Controls Manager with functional reporting to the home office project controls department.
Responsibilities
- RFIs / Supervision
- Support field supervision resolve perceived execution encumbrances, engineering errors or technical design questions
- Review P&IDs and engineering model to assess potential issues and to derive recommended solutions
- Creating and submitting RFIs and assessing customer/engineering responses
- Maintain RFI log and supply status updates for project reports
- Change Orders
- Assist site management and project controls with identifying and estimating change orders associated both with RFI responses and field generated delays or encumbrances
- Work Packaging
- Identify relevant drawings, specifications, schedules, and other relevant information and compose subcontractor work packages to support both budgeting and execution
- As required, installation work packages for direct-hire craft work
- Materials
- Assist field supervision with locating and ordering the proper materials to support timely installation
- Progress Updates
- Assist field supervision with EVS progress updates based on quantities installed
- Perform field audits of installed quantities to ensure accuracy of supervision updates
Qualifications
- High level of organizational skills
- Ability to effectively communicate with project management, customers, and technical staff
- Previous experience with general navigation in engineering models (Navisworks or other)
- Must be proficient in understanding construction drawings (all formats), specifications, standards, NDE requirements and general construction work practices.
- Previous experience in work packaging
- 5+ years in related field
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
