Construction Project Executive
Atlanta GA - Hybrid
The Project Executive is Zero's senior delivery leader — the common thread that owns a project from pre-construction through closeout and beyond. This role negotiates owner contracts, maintains the primary client relationship, and is directly accountable for the budget, schedule, quality, and financial performance of every project under their jurisdiction.
You will be the most senior person your clients interact with on a regular basis. Your judgment, relationships, and standards will define Zero's reputation in the market.
What You'll Do
Project Acquisition
Develop and maintain industry relationships to generate project leads and drive them through to acquisition
Participate in understanding unique owner needs; represent Zero's capabilities to help close prospective clients
Contribute to RFP responses — editing for project-specific content, leading interview preparation, and participating in presentations
Review projects for scope, risk, and profitability using Zero's project evaluation framework
Participate in contract negotiation with owners
Pre-construction & Project Start-Up
Lead preconstruction efforts on assigned projects, working closely with estimating and preconstruction teams to develop budgets, schedules, and logistics plans
Assign appropriate project management and field operations staff to each engagement
Review and approve all pre-mobilization activities
Ensure a formal turnover meeting occurs between preconstruction and operations teams before field work begins
Project Delivery & Oversight
Maintain high-level oversight of all assigned projects from start to finish — budget, costs, schedule, quality, and overall progress against plan
Visit project sites regularly to monitor performance, identify emerging challenges, and provide leadership in resolving them
Maintain a thorough understanding of the Zero/Owner contract; ensure project team compliance
Chair and attend weekly project staff meetings; attend all meetings necessary to monitor profitability
Ensure day-to-day operations transition effectively from preconstruction to project managers and superintendents
Financial Performance
Own the financial outcomes of all projects under your jurisdiction — budgets, forecasts, P&L, contingencies, liabilities, and savings potential
Manage cash flow, accounts receivable, and accurate financial forecasting across your portfolio
Participate in defining project budgets and schedules that achieve profitability objectives, accounting for project-specific challenges
Schedule & Safety
Assist project teams in developing baseline schedules and monitor schedule performance throughout delivery
Champion jobsite safety — motivate field teams in the implementation of Zero's safety standards
Ensure original project budgets include appropriate safety funding
Support lean planning processes and workflow initiatives on active projects
Client Relationships
Serve as Zero's primary representative to owners, architects, consultants, government authorities, vendors, and subcontractors
Maintain continuous client contact to gauge performance perceptions and relay relevant information to the project team
Attend owner and project meetings; manage client expectations proactively and with transparency
Team Leadership & Development
Monitor and evaluate project manager and superintendent performance and assignments
Mentor, coach, and train staff to perform at or above Zero's standards
Assist in sourcing and screening candidates; ensure effective matching of talent to project scope and complexity
Take responsibility for the development of the entire project team under your leadership
What You Bring
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field
10 to 15 years of construction management experience at a large-scale GC or CM at Risk firm
In-depth knowledge of complex commercial construction practices
Experience leading multiple successful project teams, including development of direct reports
Track record of maintaining strong relationships with owners, architects, and external stakeholders
Strong financial literacy — you have owned a project P&L and understand cash management and forecasting
Demonstrated ability to manage and embrace change; adapts to new processes and new ways of looking at old problems
Self-perform construction experience is a plus

At Zero, the Construction Executive is not just a delivery leader — you are the standard-bearer for how we work, how we serve clients, and how we grow. This is not a role for someone who wants to manage from a distance. It is a role for someone who wants to build something. Base Salary: $140,000 - 210,000 based on experience and market.
