COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE

The work unit exists to implement the goals and objectives of Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s strategic long range and operational plan in order to accomplish the Legislative mandate of protecting, preserving, managing, and enhancing the State’s wildlife resources in the geographical area comprised of Area 14 in the Southeast Region (Teller, El Paso, Lincoln, Kit Carson, and part of Elbert, Washington, and Yuma Counties.)
Position Duties
The purpose of this position is to handle the administrative tasks necessary to function of the Area 14 workgroup. These tasks include general office support, customer service, accounting, budgeting, and hunter education administration.

Maintain working inventory of office supplies. Open and distribute received mail, and manage outgoing mail. General clerical typing, note taking, copying, reporting, filing, and record keeping.

Customer Service
Sells CPW products to customers (licenses, permits, registrations, passes, etc). Implements established processes necessary to meet customer's needs and accurately completes and accounts for all products and associated documents. Investigates and performs appropriate product changes, replacements, and exchanges when determined to be legal. Determines compliance with hunter education requirements and reissues lost, missing, or damaged hunter education cards. Utilizes IPAWS and other databases to fulfill CPW customer needs. Handles cash, check, and credit card sales. Updates customer information in IPAWS and other databases and reports any duplicate records to the appropriate work unit. Maintains a working inventory of hunter education materials and assists hunter education instructors in getting materials ready for hunter education courses. Attempts to make transportation arrangements for sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife to certified wildlife rehabilitators and may need to humanely euthanize small animals that are sick, injured, or orphaned, following AVMA Guidelines for the Euthanasia of Animals. Assists area and regional staff by providing general office/clerical support, communicates information and dispatches field staff via phone, email, or two-way radio. Maintains a working inventory of office supplies, agency brochures, and forms. General clerical typing, note taking, copying, reporting, filing, and record keeping.
Interprets, clarifies, and explains CPW statutes, regulations, policies, directives, procedures, rules, guidelines, mission, programs, and staff actions for the public and staff. Researches statutes, regulations, policies, directives, procedures, rules, guidelines, books, manuals, maps, and other sources to provide appropriate, accurate, and up-to-date information, answers, recommendations, explanations, and remedies to the public and staff. Actively listens and uses appropriate questioning to assess customer and staff wants or needs and provides answers to questions from the public and staff. Resolves problems, issues, and complaints from the public that call or come in to minimize additional calls to other staff. Actively listens to public and staff problems, issues, or complaints to assess their needs and determines whether other staff involvement is required or provides answers, resolution, or suggests appropriate course of action. Performs mandatory animal harvest checks while remaining alert for detection of possible violations. Performs Chronic Wasting Disease sampling year round. Represents CPW through excellent customer service and proper communication of accurate information to build constituent support and understanding of CPW and its mission.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience Only:
- Three (3) years of relevant experience in Accounting, Finance, Program or project management, Administrative Assistant, Front Desk, Call center, office environment, project management, handling of money, project management, customer service (internal or external) or experience related to the work assigned to this position.
OR
Education and Experience:- A combination of related education in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Biology, Aquatic Biology/Fishery Science/Aquaculture/Fishery Management, Economics, Public Administration, Communications, Public Engagement/volunteer management, Education, Business, Program Management/Project Management, Computer Science, Applied Computing, Computer Engineering, IT, Accounting, Finance and/or relevant experience in Accounting, Finance, Program or project management, Administrative Assistant, Front Desk, Call center, office environment, project management, handling of money, project management, customer service (internal or external) or experience related to the work assigned to this position. equal to three (3) years.

- Ability to work independently and take initiative by using critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify solutions for customer or program challenges.

Have an assigned State fleet vehicle
Are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position
Utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle
