SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Public Safety Department, the position of Crossing Guard will be responsible for the safe crossing of school children at designated City locations.
Position Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions that would not adversely affect saftey considerations.
Direct the actions of children and traffic at street intersections and cross walk areas to assist in the control of safe crossing.
Report hazardous conditions to the Public Safety Department and appropriate authorities such as traffic light malfunctions; report suspicious activities or vehicles; report behavioral issues such as fighting; report frequent vehicle violations such as speeding and not stopping; make safety presence known via City issued signs and identifiable uniforms at all times; related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance.
Knowledge of:
Basic safety rules for crossing streets and pedestrian safety.
Ability to:
Communicate effectively and in a positive manner with children.
Bilingual capabilities in Spanish & English is desirable, but not required.
Read, understand, and interpret safety rules.
Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities. A typical way to obtain these would be:
Previous experience working with children is desirable, but not required.
A valid First Aid and CPR certificate is required and may be obtained through the City if employment is offered.

Good health and emotional stability to a level necessary to perform the essential job duties; the ability to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time; the ability to work outdoors in various kinds of weather; normal vision and hearing correctable with glasses and hearing aids.
