Position Summary
The Culinary Arts Instructor is responsible for providing both classroom and hands-on culinary instruction while preparing students for successful careers in the culinary and hospitality industries. This role combines professional cooking experience with education, leadership, and mentorship in a dynamic learning environment.
The successful candidate will teach students proper food preparation techniques, kitchen safety, sanitation practices, menu planning, and professional culinary skills while maintaining a safe, organized, and productive kitchen.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide classroom and hands-on instruction in culinary arts.
- Demonstrate professional cooking techniques and food preparation methods.
- Prepare and cook a variety of meals while teaching proper culinary procedures.
- Develop lesson plans and practical culinary training exercises.
- Evaluate student performance and provide coaching and constructive feedback.
- Teach proper food handling, sanitation, and kitchen safety procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all health and food safety regulations.
- Maintain inventory and assist with ordering kitchen supplies.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment.
- Encourage professionalism, teamwork, and student success.
- Stay current with culinary trends, techniques, and industry best practices.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Professional experience working as a Cook, Chef, Sous Chef, Kitchen Manager, or in a related culinary position.
- Experience training, mentoring, or supervising others in a kitchen environment.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and commercial kitchen operations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Culinary degree or formal culinary training.
- Previous teaching or instructional experience.
- Current ServSafe Certification (or equivalent).
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Passion for mentoring and developing future culinary professionals.
