General Description:
The purpose of this class within the organization is to perform routine custodial duties. This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Requires six months custodial experience or closely related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of cleaning materials, methods, equipment, and procedures.
- Ability to exercise care in the use of cleaning materials and equipment.
- Ability to perform custodial duties without close supervision.
- Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.
- Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers. Personally, demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.
- Work is performed onsite. The incumbent must be present at work to perform the essential functions of this job.
Essential Job Functions:
- Performs routine custodial duties, including but not limited to cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, stocking restrooms with supplies, cleaning windows and other glass surfaces, dusting furniture and other surfaces, removing trash, sweeping and mopping floors, scrubbing and polishing floors, vacuuming, spot cleaning and shampooing carpets, upholstery, etc.
- Opens and closes buildings as directed; maintains entrance ways and grounds; cleans porches, walkways, etc.
- Cleans counter tops and water fountains, wipes tables, cleans jail cells, delivers newspapers to offices, changes light bulbs, fills drop box, waters plants, and raises and lowers flags.
- Maintains cleaning equipment, reports any maintenance deficiencies within the building; monitors, inventories and maintains supplies; prepares and processes supply requests, equipment repair requests, and building maintenance requests.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals, such as supervisors, other city employees, co-workers, tenants and the general public; provides quality service to internal and external customers.
- Performs all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.
