As a distinguished non-profit organization, we specialize in delivering top-tier early education across Tippecanoe (Lafayette, West Lafayette), Jasper (Rensselaer, Remington), and Newton (Goodland) Counties, operating seven licensed child care centers. 
 
Right now, we are seeking a dedicated and passionate Custodian to join our team at Appletree Facility:

As a Custodian, you'll maintain the cleanliness and overall sanitation of the childcare facility, including classrooms, offices, bathroom facilities, and general grounds maintenance, in a way that promotes health and safety while reducing the spread of infectious illness.

Main responsibilities:
  • Follow cleaning checklist developed using licensing and NAEYC requirements for cleaning and sanitation.
  • Perform regular cleaning duties of all classrooms, offices, restroom facilities, and common areas according to the daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedule or more often if needed. Tasks include but are not limited to collecting, bagging, and properly disposing of all center garbage, cleaning and disinfecting all common contact surfaces (door handles, telephones, etc.) and trash receptacles, cleaning and sanitizing all restroom facilities with germicidal  solution, mopping and disinfecting all floors, vacuuming all carpeting, maintaining a clear and safe  internal and external building entrance, dusting, etc.
  • Maintain cleaning and sanitizing equipment in good condition and use according to instructions.
  • Report any water leaks or other maintenance needs, the presence of animals, vermin, or insects in the building, and/or the need for cleaning supplies and paper products to the Center Director or designated staff person immediately to ensure proper ordering and timely completion of work requests.
  • Store all chemicals used for cleaning in a safe and secure manner and in accordance with Material Safety Data Sheets, State and Federal regulations and Licensing, Accreditation and Agency guidelines. Maintain current MSDS sheets on all chemicals used and follow proper handling instructions.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of custodial closet and supplies

 

Schedule: Monday through Friday from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm 

Requirements

Our ideal candidate is someone who genuinely loves working with children and possesses the following minimum qualifications and skills

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 1 year prior experience in janitorial field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to make sound decisions regarding janitorial needs and communicate effectively with supervisor both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and program rules and requirements regarding chemical safety, janitorial services, and child care.
  • Ability to read and follow simple instructions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of client and staff information.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Ability to operate janitorial equipment such as an industrial floor buffer, vacuum, etc.
  • Ability to regularly stand, walks, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, and carry.
