Job Description

CDL DELIVERY DRIVER

The CDL Delivery Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting materials between branches, distribution centers, vendors, and customer locations while operating commercial motor vehicles in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local transportation regulations. This role supports daily operations through safe driving practices, attention to detail, accurate documentation, and adherence to company policies, DOT requirements, and safety standards.

Essential Functions

  • Safely operate Class A commercial motor vehicles to transport materials between branches, customer locations, distribution centers, and designated delivery sites

  • Load, secure, transport, and unload materials in accordance with DOT regulations, company procedures, and safe cargo handling practices

  • Verify shipment accuracy prior to departure and upon delivery to ensure customer satisfaction and inventory integrity

  • Complete and maintain required delivery, transfer, inspection, and transportation documentation accurately and timely

  • Conduct pre-trip, post-trip, and daily vehicle inspections in accordance with DOT regulations and company requirements

  • Monitor vehicle condition and promptly report maintenance, repair, or safety concerns to management

  • Maintain compliance with all DOT, FMCSA, company safety, and transportation regulations, including hours-of-service requirements when applicable

  • Secure loads properly to prevent damage, loss, or safety hazards during transport

  • Assist with loading, unloading, staging, and material handling activities as needed

  • Support warehouse operations, inventory control, and branch logistics functions during non-driving periods

  • Conduct cycle counts and inventory verification activities as assigned

  • Maintain cleanliness and professional appearance of assigned vehicles and work areas

  • Provide professional and courteous service while interacting with customers, vendors, and coworkers

  • Follow all company policies, safety standards, and traffic laws while operating company equipment

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership or senior management

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of safe commercial vehicle operation and defensive driving practices

  • Understanding of DOT regulations, vehicle inspections, and transportation compliance requirements

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety

  • Excellent time-management and route-planning abilities

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills

  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules, delivery priorities, and business needs

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required

  • Clean driving record and ability to meet company insurability requirements

  • Current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (Medical Card) required

  • Previous commercial driving experience preferred

  • Forklift certification preferred but not required

  • Ability to successfully pass DOT-required drug and alcohol testing

  • No history of drug or alcohol abuse

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while operating commercial vehicles

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, crouch, climb, and reach throughout the workday

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry materials weighing 50 pounds or more

  • Ability to safely load, secure, and unload materials

  • Ability to work in varying weather and environmental conditions

  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, supervisors, and transportation personnel

Certifications & Licenses

  • Valid Class A CDL required

  • Current DOT Medical Card required

  • Ability to meet all DOT qualification standards

  • Forklift certification preferred
