ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE:
The Deputy Director of Education provides strategic leadership and oversight for the Youth Department's educational, instructional, and youth support initiatives. This position is responsible for ensuring that educational programming, staff development, social-emotional supports, and enrichment services are aligned, high-quality, and responsive to the evolving needs of youth and families across all program sites. The Deputy Director of Education serves as a key member of the Youth Department leadership team and works closely with program leadership.

The Deputy Director of Education provides strategic leadership and oversight for the Youth Department's educational, instructional, and youth support initiatives. This position is responsible for ensuring that educational programming, staff development, social-emotional supports, and enrichment services are aligned, high-quality, and responsive to the evolving needs of youth and families across all program sites. The Deputy Director of Education serves as a key member of the Youth Department leadership team and works closely with program leadership.
EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP AND PROGRAM QUALITY
- Develop and implement the department's educational vision and instructional strategy across all youth programs.
- Oversee curriculum implementation and ensure alignment with organizational goals, funder requirements, and best practices in youth development.
- Establish systems to monitor educational quality, program effectiveness, and participant outcomes.
- Support the development of lesson plans, enrichment activities, and instructional resources.
- Conduct program observations and quality assessments to ensure consistency across all sites.
- Utilize data and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and drive continuous program enhancement.
- Develop and oversee department-wide training and professional development initiatives.
- Create training frameworks for Program Directors, Assistant Directors, Content Specialists, Activity Specialists, and Group Leaders.
- Provide coaching and technical assistance to site leadership and instructional staff.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and professional growth.
- Support leadership development and succession planning initiatives throughout the department.
- Provide oversight of youth support systems, ensuring strong integration between educational programming and social-emotional services.
- Supervises the Youth Mental Health Manager and Content Specialists as well as collaborate on interventions that support youth success.
- Oversee systems for referrals to community-based services and external resources.
- Ensure appropriate support is available for youth experiencing academic, behavioral, social-emotional, or family-related challenges.
- Support the development of trauma-informed and youth-centered practices across all programs.
- Support the supervision and development of MSW interns and other educational internship placements.
- Establish partnerships with colleges and universities to create internship and workforce development opportunities.
- Develop pathways that support recruitment, professional growth, and future leadership development.
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Development to identify and pursue youth-focused grant opportunities.
- Assist in the development of grant proposals, program narratives, and funding requests that support educational initiatives, mental health services, and youth development programming.
- Cultivate partnerships with schools, community organizations, higher education institutions, and service providers.
- Identify opportunities to expand services and resources available to youth and families.
- Participate in departmental planning, strategic initiatives, and leadership meetings.
- Develop reports, program evaluations, and outcome measurements for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, funder requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Support the Director of Youth Services in achieving departmental goals and objectives.
- As a community-focused organization, all employees may occasionally be required to support organizational events, special initiatives, and community activities outside of their regular work schedule, including evenings and weekends. These events are essential to advancing the organization's mission, strengthening community partnerships, and serving our stakeholders
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Youth Development, Educational Leadership, or a related field required.
- Minimum of five (3) years of progressive leadership experience in youth development, education, afterschool programming, or related fields.
- Strong knowledge of curriculum development, instructional practices, youth development principles, and social-emotional learning.
- Experience developing and facilitating staff trainings and professional development.
- Knowledge of grant development, community partnerships, and program evaluation preferred.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
