Job Description
Design Engineer
  • ­    Ensure that the QMS confirms to ISO 9001:2015
  • ­    Ensure processes are delivering intended outcomes
  • ­    Report to Top Management on the performance of the QMS; on opportunities for improvement; on change requirements; on innovations
  • ­    Ensure the promotion of customer focus
  • ­    Ensure the integrity of the QMS is maintained

Roles & Responsibilities

•    Responsible for the design, development, and documentation of low to medium voltage switchgear and power distribution systems

•    Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, customer requirements, and MCM quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

•    Design and develop electrical switchgear systems including – general requirements, elevation and plan views, one-line diagrams, schematics, and control circuits.

•    Select and specify electrical components such as breakers, relays, CTs, PTs, bus bars, and protective devices.

•    Create and revise engineering drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD, E-Plan).

•    Ensure designs comply with relevant standards (e.g., IEC, ANSI, UL, IEEE).

•    Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical designers, project managers, and manufacturing teams.

•    Review and interpret customer specifications and provide technical input during submittal, production, and post-shipment phases.

•    Maintain project documentation and provide timely updates to project stakeholders.

Work Environment:

•    Self-directed, able to work autonomously or with limited direct supervision, receives general instructions on new assignments.

•    Typical work week - 40 hrs.

•    This is an on-site position unless approval is given by management based on a major life change 

•    Willingness to work 10% overtime as needed.

•    Travel is not required for this position.

Experience & Education:

The well-qualified Design Engineer will have:

•    A Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering, or an Electrical Emphasis of a more General Engineering degree

•    A technical degree or certificate with a minimum of three years’ relevant experience

•    3+ years of experience in switchgear or power distribution equipment design.

•    Experience with AutoCAD, E-Plan, and Microsoft software

•    Familiarity with low and medium voltage systems (up to 38kV).

•    Strong understanding of electrical protection and control systems.

•    Knowledge of relevant electrical standards (IEC, IEEE, UL, NEMA, etc.).

•    Hands-on experience in manufacturing or field service of switchgear.
