What are we looking for in a Director of Acute Care & Field Operations?



The primary position purpose is to provide strategic and operational leadership for community-based and diversion programs, ensuring consistent service excellence, optimizing patient access and throughput by diverting individuals from higher-acuity services, and embedding a culture of critical risk assessment and mitigation across all field-based teams.



This role serves as a key driver of organizational excellence, focusing on the development and mentorship of manager-level leaders while fostering a high-performance culture. The Director is responsible for maintaining financial and contractual health, building strong community partnerships, and ensuring stable staffing and morale across all field-based teams. By aligning departmental goals with organizational objectives and promoting collaborative problem-solving, this position ensures the delivery of high-quality, sustainable care that reflects our commitment to client-centered service and operational reliability.

Key Success Measures



Audit and Regulatory Compliance



Maintains zero repeat high-risk findings across community and diversion programs, ensures 100% of identified high-risk findings have an approved corrective action plan within 10 business days, and achieves full resolution within required regulatory or accreditation timelines.



Crisis Diversion and Readmission Reduction



Successfully diverts at least 70% of eligible clients from acute or inpatient services and reduces 30-day readmissions to higher levels of care from community programs by at least 10% compared with the prior year baseline.



Fiscal Management



Maintain program financial performance within ±3% of approved budgets while meeting utilization and service capacity targets for community-based services.



Key Activities



Standardize Operations & Improve Reliability



Standardize workflows, processes, and clinical protocols across all community and diversion programs to reduce variability and ensure consistent, reliable execution.



Optimize Access & Throughput (Diversion)



Strategically manage and optimize patient flow and resource utilization within diversion programs to reduce avoidable hospitalizations and facilitate timely, effective transitions to lower levels of care.



Ensure Quality, Safety & Compliance



Ensure all field-based and community programs meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards, with a proactive focus on risk assessment and embedding critical decision-making in off-site teams.



Develop Community Partnerships & Outreach



Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key community stakeholders (e.g., courts, law enforcement, healthcare partners) to strengthen referral pipelines and enhance the system’s overall community impact.



Ensure Workforce Stability & Leadership Accountability



Ensure stable staffing, high team morale, and professional development opportunities for all community and field-based personnel.



Workforce Development for Crisis Services



Recruit, develop, and retain a highly skilled and resilient clinical team specialized in crisis intervention and high-acuity behavioral healthcare.



Leadership & Team Development



Provide supervision, coaching, and performance management for staff, establish department goals and accountability standards, support staff development and operational consistency across crisis functions.



Skills & Experience




  • Preferred experience in healthcare, behavioral health, or multi-site and community-based service environments

  • Demonstrated experience in operational leadership within high-acuity behavioral health or crisis care settings

  • Expertise in managing integrated care models, specifically community-based diversion and short-term crisis stabilization

  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance requirements and safety standards in crisis services

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Ability to manage multiple operational priorities in fast-paced environments

Work Environment & Physical Demands




  • Primarily operates in office, healthcare, residential, and community-based environments

  • Requires frequent movement throughout agency facilities and grounds

  • Ability to travel between sites and attend meetings across locations as needed

  • Ability to inspect maintenance areas, mechanical systems, rooftops, and operational spaces

  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds
