As a respected regional leader in ophthalmology care, our organization serves patients throughout the East Metro and Western Wisconsin from our headquarters in Stillwater, Minnesota. Guided by our commitment to “Vision for a Lifetime,” we are seeking a dynamic Director of Clinic & Surgical Operations to drive performance, efficiency, and exceptional patient care across our clinics and ambulatory surgery center. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, results-driven leader who can align people, processes, and systems to achieve operational excellence and support outstanding patient outcomes. Compensation will be determined based on relevant experience and skills, with an anticipated minimum salary of $150,000 annually, plus benefits.

 

 

Position Summary

The Director of Clinic & Surgical Operations provides strategic and operational leadership for Associated Eye Care’s clinic and ambulatory surgery center operations across multiple locations. This role is responsible for operational performance, patient access, workflow optimization, financial stewardship, employee engagement, regulatory readiness, and the overall patient and physician experience. This position partners closely with physicians, executive leadership, and department leaders to improve operational efficiency, support organizational growth, enhance patient care delivery, and maintain high standards of service in a fast-paced ophthalmology environment. This position serves as a key operational leader responsible for aligning people, processes, and systems to support organizational success.

Director of Clinic & Surgical Operations Essential Functions

 

Strategic & Operational Leadership

  • Provides leadership for clinic and ambulatory surgery center operations across multiple locations
  • Partners with executive leadership and physicians to implement operational strategies aligned with organizational goals and growth initiatives
  • Leads operational improvement efforts focused on patient access, provider productivity, scheduling optimization, workflow efficiency, and operational scalability
  • Develops and standardizes operational processes and best practices to support consistency, efficiency, and patient experience
  • Utilizes operational metrics and analytics to evaluate performance, identify trends, and support operational decision-making
  • Collaborates with physicians and operational leaders to optimize staffing models, provider schedules, and patient flow

 

Clinic & Surgical Operations

  • Oversees daily clinic and ASC operations to ensure efficient, compliant, and patient-centered care delivery
  • Coordinates operational integration between clinic operations, diagnostics, surgery scheduling, and ancillary services
  • Ensures appropriate staffing, equipment, supplies, and operational resources are available to support clinical and surgical operations
  • Oversees operational workflows within the Electronic Health Record and related operational systems
  • Supports high-volume ophthalmic patient flow and procedural coordination within a multi-site environment
  • Partners with clinical leadership to maintain operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and quality patient care

 

Quality, Compliance & Financial Management

  • Maintains compliance with CMS, OSHA, HIPAA, and applicable regulatory and accreditation standards
  • Supports Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives and organizational readiness efforts
  • Monitors operational, financial, and patient satisfaction metrics to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Develops and manages operational budgets while supporting organizational financial performance goals
  • Participates in operational forecasting, capital planning, vendor management, and purchasing decisions

 

Leadership & Team Development

  • Recruits, mentors, develops, and evaluates operational leaders and staff
  • Establishes operational goals, performance expectations, and staffing strategies
  • Promotes accountability, collaboration, employee engagement, and continuous improvement
  • Supports onboarding, training, and professional development initiatives
  • Facilitates effective communication and collaboration across departments and leadership teams
  • Leads through professionalism, accountability, and a solutions-oriented leadership approach

Requirements

Education & Licensing

  •          Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Healthcare Management, or related field required
  •          Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related healthcare field preferred

Experience

  •          Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible healthcare operations or medical practice management experience required
  •          Experience leading multidisciplinary and multi-site healthcare operations in a fast-paced environment required
  •          Multi-site clinic operations and ambulatory surgery center experience strongly preferred
  •          Ophthalmology operations experience strongly preferred

Skills & Knowledge

  •          Strong knowledge of clinic and ambulatory surgery center operations
  •          Understanding of ophthalmology workflows, diagnostic testing, and surgical coordination preferred
  •          Knowledge of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and operational compliance
  •          Strong leadership, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  •          Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building abilities
  •          Ability to analyze operational data and implement process improvements
  •          Proficiency with Electronic Health Record systems, operational technologies, and Microsoft Office applications
