Position Title: Director of Property Management

Position Purpose
The Director of Property Management provides strategic leadership and oversight for all facilities, housing, fleet, grounds, infrastructure, and physical assets across Teton Science Schools. This position is responsible for ensuring that organizational assets are safe, functional, sustainable, and aligned with the long-term mission and strategic goals of Teton Science Schools.
The Director leads the planning, stewardship, and continuous improvement of physical resources across multiple campuses and operational locations while overseeing capital projects, asset management strategies, budget development, risk mitigation, and property-related operational systems. Working closely with the Property Operations Manager, this role focuses on long-range planning, organizational priorities, and ensuring that TSS facilities and infrastructure effectively support educational programs, staff, students, and community partners.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated success leading facilities, property management, construction, maintenance, or operational teams.
- Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
- Experience developing and managing departmental operating and capital budgets.
- Knowledge of facility maintenance, construction practices, infrastructure systems, fleet operations, and vendor management.
- Proven ability to estimate, oversee, and complete construction and capital improvement projects.
- Ability to manage risk and make sound operational decisions in dynamic environments.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Experience supervising and developing staff.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and property management software systems.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in educational, nonprofit, hospitality, outdoor recreation, or mission-driven organizations.
- Experience managing multi-site operations and employee housing.
- Knowledge of fleet management, capital planning, sustainability initiatives, and asset lifecycle management.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, and development for the Property Management team.
- Supervise the Property Operations Manager and support the ongoing development of department staff.
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, collaboration, customer service, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct performance evaluations and support professional development planning.
- Ensure staff maintain required certifications, training, and compliance standards.
- Develop staffing plans and organizational structures that support current and future operational needs.
Property & Asset Strategy
- Develop and implement long-term strategies for facilities, housing, fleet, infrastructure, and asset management.
- Establish standards and systems that ensure effective stewardship of organizational resources.
- Maintain comprehensive asset management plans and replacement schedules.
- Support organizational planning efforts by assessing future facility and infrastructure needs.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, sustainability, accessibility, and campus functionality.
Capital Projects & Infrastructure Management
- Lead major construction, renovation, infrastructure, and campus improvement projects.
- Establish project priorities, budgets, timelines, and implementation strategies.
- Oversee contractor selection, procurement processes, permitting, and project execution.
- Ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with organizational goals.
- Monitor project outcomes and support continuous improvement of facilities and infrastructure.
Financial Stewardship
- Develop and manage departmental operating and capital budgets.
- Monitor expenditures and ensure effective use of organizational resources.
- Support long-term capital planning and asset replacement forecasting.
- Evaluate project costs, vendor proposals, and investment opportunities.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies while maintaining quality standards.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with contractors, vendors, service providers, and community partners.
- Negotiate contracts and oversee vendor performance.
- Collaborate with organizational leadership and department managers to support operational and programmatic needs.
- Serve as a strategic resource for property-related planning, problem solving, and decision-making.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Promote a culture of safety across all campuses and facilities.
- Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, environmental regulations, safety standards, and organizational policies.
- Support emergency preparedness, risk mitigation, insurance requirements, and operational continuity planning.
- Collaborate with Risk Management, Operations, and Leadership teams on organizational safety initiatives.
- Support incident response and property-related risk assessment efforts.
One TSS Responsibilities
- Engage and collaborate across all Teton Science Schools programs and departments in service of the organizational mission.
- Participate in organizational leadership initiatives, planning efforts, and cross-functional projects.
- Periodically participate in on-call responsibilities as assigned.
- Positively represent Teton Science Schools to students, families, staff, community members, donors, and partners.
- Contribute to inclusive work and learning environments through the ongoing development of cultural competency and leadership practices.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Primarily based at the Jackson Campus with regular travel between campuses and operational locations.
- Combination of office, facilities, construction site, and outdoor work environments.
- May be expected to work evenings, weekends, or extended hours to support projects, emergencies, or organizational events.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb stairs and ladders, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to operate vehicles, equipment, hand tools, and power tools as needed.
- Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals, construction environments, dust, fumes, and varying environmental conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment consistent with facilities and property management responsibilities.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
