Job Description

Additional Information: This hotel is owned and operated by an independent franchisee, Selenta Hospitality Manco, S.L., The franchisee is a separate company and a separate employer from Marriott International, Inc.  The franchisee solely controls all aspects of the hotel’s employment policies and practices, including hiring, firing, discipline, staffing, compensation, benefits, and all other terms and conditions of employment.  If you accept a position at this hotel, you will be employed by a franchisee and not by Marriott International, Inc.

This is not a traditional Director of Sales & Marketing role. It is a high-impact commercial leadership mandate for one of Madrid's leading full-service hotels, with the objective of accelerating performance, strengthening market positioning and contributing to long-term asset value creation.

The successful candidate will be expected to operate as a commercial strategist, talent developer, trusted business partner to the General Manager and Corporate Commercial Leadership Team, and ambassador of both Madrid Marriott Hotel Princesa and Marriott International.

The role requires a leader who combines strategic vision with hands-on execution; someone capable of identifying opportunities, mobilizing teams quickly, translating insight into action and converting commercial potential into measurable results.

The Director of Sales & Marketing will be a key catalyst for this transformation: raising standards, developing people, improving conversion discipline, strengthening account management, leveraging Marriott more effectively and contributing to sustainable GOP and asset value growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and execute the annual commercial strategy across key market segments: MICE, Corporate, Leisure Groups, Tour Operators, and Crew Business.

Maximize revenue opportunities through Consortia, Strategic Partnerships, Wholesale, and GDS distribution channels.

Bring a fact-based approach to commercial decision-making using market intelligence, competitive benchmarking, customer insights, and performance analytics.

Strengthen proactive sales activity, key account management, lead qualification, response times, and conversion standards.

Collaborate closely with Revenue Management while preserving appropriate segregation of responsibilities to ensure optimal pricing discipline.

Drive profitable growth through business mix optimization, market share expansion, and pipeline quality, contributing directly to GOP and asset value creation.

Position Madrid Marriott Hotel Princesa as a leading choice in the city for medium-sized meetings, conferences, conventions, and group business.

Execute a clear MICE strategy aimed at exceeding a 25% annual business mix contribution while protecting profitability and operational quality.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with high-end MICE clients, specialized agencies, DMCs, corporate buyers, and Marriott commercial platforms.

Partner with Operations, Banqueting, Revenue Management, and Controlling to ensure commercial promises are operationally deliverable and financially attractive.

Directly lead and inspire a commercial organization of approximately 14 professionals: Proactive Sales (5), Reactive Sales & Event Coordination (7), and Marketing (2).

Create a culture of accountability, ownership, collaboration, continuous feedback, and high performance.

Develop future leaders through professional coaching, mentoring, clear objective-setting, performance reviews, and succession planning.

Integrate proactive sales, reactive sales, events, marketing, revenue, and operations into a single commercial engine.

Act as a trusted advisor and constructive sparring partner to the General Manager, contributing to the hotel's overall business strategy beyond the commercial function.

Anticipate market risks and opportunities early, bringing proactive solutions and action plans to the Executive Committee.

Act as the hotel’s primary commercial interface with Marriott International regional and corporate teams, including the Global Sales Organization.

Maximize business opportunities through Marriott Bonvoy, brand initiatives, global account relationships, and corporate programs while preserving the property's local personality.

Translate the hotel's positioning into clear marketing priorities, campaigns, and content strategies across direct channels, PR, and digital platforms.

Work in coordination with the Cluster Marketing Leadership Team to ensure brand consistency, digital visibility.

Job Qualifications:

Proven success in senior commercial leadership roles within premium, upscale or luxury hospitality environments.

• Significant experience in large MICE-oriented hotels, ideally urban full-service properties with substantial meetings and events operations.

• Experience in hotels of comparable scale and complexity, preferably 400+ rooms.

• Proven ability to grow MICE contribution, improve conversion and manage medium-sized corporate events, conferences, associations and group business.

• Strong experience managing complex commercial organizations across multiple market segments.

• Demonstrated track record of revenue growth, market share gains and profitable business mix optimization.

• Experience leading commercial transformation and organizational change.

• Strong stakeholder management capabilities and executive presence.

• Ability to operate effectively with both hotel leadership and corporate / cluster teams.

• Marriott experience is strongly preferred and considered a major advantage.

• Fluent English and Spanish required.
