The Director of Student Support Services leads the Student Support Team (SST) in delivering comprehensive academic, behavioral, mental, and physical health services that promote student growth and wellbeing. They oversee compliance, manage partnerships with external agencies, and design proactive interventions that align with SEED’s mission and core values. Through data-driven leadership, staff development, and family engagement, they ensure that all students receive the supports necessary for academic success and personal development. The Director also fosters a positive school culture by collaborating across departments, leading professional development, and maintaining high standards of care and accountability. This is a 12-month position that will report to the Head of School. 


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the hiring, supervision, and development of the Student Support Team (SST), including Mental Health Counselors, school nurses, Dean of School Culture and Climate, School-Community Resource Coordinator, and other contracted support staff.
  • Hold weekly SST department meetings to review goals, monitor progress, and ensure collaboration across student services.
  • Conduct quarterly evaluations of SST members using the established rubric in TeachBoost and provide timely feedback for growth.
  • Use data to inform department practices and decisions; collaborate with other departments to analyze student growth and school performance trends.
  • Lead the SST in creating and monitoring individualized success plans using evidence-based interventions, tracking fidelity and measuring progress.
  • Develop and implement accountability systems for student services that align with SEED’s mission, values, and desired student outcomes.
  • Provide regular professional development for all school staff on topics related to student support, behavioral interventions, health services, and mental health awareness.
  • Manage compliance with all student services regulations from local, state, and federal agencies, ensuring timely responses and thorough documentation.
  • Assist in managing external relationships and partnerships with community agencies, healthcare providers, and service organizations supporting students and families.
    Oversee the development of proactive strategies such as curriculum integration, parent workshops, and group counseling to prevent risky behaviors and support student wellbeing.
  • Prepare and manage the annual operating budget for student support services, ensuring responsible stewardship of funds.
  • Schedule med training for select staff.
  • Plan and implement training for all staff on model of care. 
  • Conduct observations specifically geared towards model of care.
  • Attend area leadership meetings according to the cadence established by the Head of School.
  • Attend all required professional development as outlined by the Head of School, including SEED Summit participation.
  • Plan and host monthly incentive-based field trips to recognize and celebrate student achievements.

Mental Health Services

  • Supervise and coach the school counseling team to deliver primary and secondary intervention services aligned to best practices.
  • Ensure consistent, thoughtful delivery of mental health supports and interventions across the student body.
  • Develop clear protocols for staff access to appropriate, relevant student support information.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with community mental health organizations to support students and families.
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of monthly Family Workshops focused on wellness, parenting strategies, and family engagement.

Behavioral Health Services

  • Collaborate with the Dean of School Culture and Climate to guide the culture and climate team in promoting positive behavior systems.
  • Ensure behavioral supports are aligned with the broader student support framework and consistently implemented.
  • Model the SEED Model of Care in student interactions and coach staff to do the same to foster a positive student-adult school culture.

Physical Health Services

  • Lead and manage the school health services team, including oversight of the School-Based Health Clinic (SBHC).
  • Develop programming that promotes healthy lifestyles and ensures the delivery of quality healthcare services to students.
  • Coordinate with families to assess, plan, and meet each student’s healthcare needs, including medication management and emergency care plans.
  • Partner with local healthcare providers and hospitals to establish emergency protocols and points of contact.
  • Work with food services to support healthy meal planning for students and staff.
  • Plan annual CPR training for staff and ensure all medication documentation, immunization records, and health forms are maintained according to district protocols.
  • Support opportunities for physical activity in collaboration with Directors of Student Affairs and the Head of School.

Attendance and Community Resource Services

  • Coordinate with the Head of School and Director of Admissions to meet FTE week requirements for district reporting.
  • Oversee the development of a Parent Resource Center in the school lobby.

Other Professional Duties

  • Participate actively as a member of the Programmatic Leadership Team.
  • Conduct home visits according to established school protocols to build strong family partnerships.
  • Ensure implementation of school-wide platforms with fidelity. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of School to support the mission and goals of SEED Miami.

  • Builds strong partnerships with families and external service providers to support holistic student development. Provides families with access to resources, workshops, and direct communication about student progress and available services.

Requirements
  • Master’s degree or higher in education, social sciences, psychology, or applicable field. 
  • Licensed in school counseling, psychology, social work, or applicable field. (preferred)
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in administration, supervision, and program development. 
  • Knowledge of social, emotional, and cognitive development as well as health/medical needs of students in grades 6-12. 
  • Experience working with diverse students and their families.
