Job Description

Flooring Lead



The Flooring Lead demonstrates success in the finish department of trailer manufacturing operations while leading teams responsible for the installation of wood-paneled flooring on heavy-duty trailers. The Flooring Lead monitors, trains, and supervises a group of employees to achieve production, quality, and safety goals that contribute to the growth of the organization. The Flooring Lead motivates and inspires their team by creating an environment that promotes positive communication, encourages teamwork, and demonstrates flexibility. This position works directly for the Production Manager.



Primary Duties and Responsibilities




  • Ensure all team members are trained to effectively perform flooring installation duties.

  • Develop and train backup team members to support production needs.

  • Assist in team building and encourage a positive team environment.

  • Ensure team members are fully trained in all aspects of safety, quality, and flooring installation procedures.

  • Participate in Root Cause/Corrective Action processes related to safety, quality, and production issues.

  • Embrace and educate employees on continuous improvement initiatives while applying leadership and problem-solving tools to improve business metrics.

  • Provide leadership and direction through daily shop floor meetings, effective communication, and by developing an efficient team that meets production schedules, customer requirements, and process improvements.

  • Enforce all company procedures and work standards. Ensure team members are installing trailer flooring according to company specifications and quality standards.

  • Monitor team attendance and ensure timely return from breaks and shift changes.

  • Coordinate with Materials, Production, and other departments to ensure flooring materials, hardware, and equipment are available to support production.

  • Participate in continuous improvement activities.

  • Report production updates, safety concerns, and quality issues during GEMBA walks.

  • Ensure all safety policies and procedures are followed and report all accidents or incidents to the Safety Department.

  • Work closely with Quality Control inspectors to address flooring quality concerns and ensure finished products meet specifications.

  • Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained throughout the flooring work area.

  • Work side-by-side with new and existing employees to provide hands-on training and development.

  • Assist the Production Manager and Shipping Supervisor with employee evaluations and performance feedback.

  • Perform flooring installation duties alongside the team as needed to support production and provide leadership.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
