Job Title: Door Person
Reports to: Director of Front Office
Department: Front Office/ Guest Services
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Door Person at The Pierre New York, A Taj Hotel, is responsible for getting guest luggage and belongings from their incoming vehicle to the front desk upon check in, and from the front desk to their outgoing vehicle on check out. The Door Person also opens doors for guests in and out of the hotel and hail taxicab transportation for guests. They must have a good knowledge of the city and ensure the smooth flow of all traffic in and out of the hotel including valet park. This position is required to offer a standard of service and have interpersonal skills necessary to ensure luxury experience.
JOB FUNCTION, TASKS, and RESPONSIBILITIES:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Previous experience in luxury hotel environment is preferred
- Must have the ability to work as a team
- Must have a valid New York driver’s license, free of traffic and substance abuse-related
- A positive attitude and ability to work well with a diverse staff
- Physical ability to stand for long periods of time
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Have flexibility to work a varied schedule, including overnights and weekends
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and guest service skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Position:
- Bends and twists at the waist while walking is not uncommon
- Walking distance to/from vehicles is approx. 75 feet at a time
- Extended standing
Force:
- Push/Pull force on cart varies significantly, depending on the number and weight of the luggage on it. Initial, peak force generally between 20-30 lbs.
- Reaches to luggage generally from approx. 18-36 inches from the floor, horizontal reach-12-24 inches into trunks.
- Can be higher if reaching into vans, buses, etc. Total number of bags at any given time, or over a given day varies significantly. Generally, 2-6 bags per trip.
