Job Description

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY:

Schedule: Regular - PT; 28 hours weekly



This position is responsible for:



Providing assistance to the Social Services Program in Food Pantry services. This involves driving a Salvation Army owned vehicle to pick up daily food donations, receiving misc. pantry donations, weighing, organizing, and distributing supplies of food and other items as scheduled.  Checks and records daily the temperature of each refrigerator & freezer to ensure food safety. Rotates food stock to ensure that oldest items are distributed first to avoid spoilage. Keeps the food pantry clean and compliant. Incumbent will also be responsible for general janitorial duties to be performed with the administrative offices and Corps building.



Key Responsibilities:



Food Pantry




  • Stores, refrigerates, and freezes foods in a safe and economical manner; monitors expiration dates on all foods ensuring proper disposal of food with expired dates.

  • Rotates food to avoid spoilage.

  • Checks & records daily the temperature of each refrigerator and freezer.

  • Receives, weighs, stores. organizes, and distributes food and commodities for the Food Pantry program.

  • Stocks foods, beverages, and supplies in an orderly and safe manner.

  • Cleans pantry and pantry storage areas.

  • Assists in keeping freezers in order and rotating food to optimize freshness.

  • Under the supervision of the Social Services Program Coordinator, helps to ensure compliance with all USDA guidelines and regulations.

  • Loads and unloads trucks of pantry donations & USDA foods.



Driver 




  • Picks up donated items from stores on scheduled days.

  • Picks-up and delivers miscellaneous items as needed.

  • Provides transportation to and from special events

  • Transports clients to designated drop-off points and picks-up at pre-determined times.

  • Supports agency mission and program mission and goals during the Holiday season.

  • Drives carefully and observes/complies with all traffic signs and road/weather conditions to ensure the safety of passengers.

  • Parks vehicle in a safe and clearly marked parking space.

  • Locks vehicle doors when vehicle is not in use.

  • Fuels vehicle in accordance with state gasoline regulations and The Salvation Army standards.

  • Logs all mileage on standard forms; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.

  • Arrives at destination according to schedule or telephones ahead when severe delays occur.

  • Maintains control of passenger activities by prohibiting unsafe or inappropriate behavior and reports unsafe passenger activities to Social Services Program Coordinator and/or officer.

  • Provides assistance at special events throughout the Holiday season as assigned.



Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:




  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

  • Duties are performed by frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting.

  • Availability to work flexible hours during seasonal activities.

  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds on occasional basis.

  • Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and climbing.

  • Majority of work is performed in a normal office environment. On occasion, work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures in warehouse or outdoor settings.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:




  • High school diploma or GED, OR

  • any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.



LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:




  • Valid State Driver’s License.

  • Will be required to obtain West Virginia Food Handlers Certificate.
