Driver Lead / Swing Driver (Operations Support)



Garvey?s Office Products ? Chicagoland Area

Pay: $25.00 to $28.00 /hr (based on experience)

Position Summary



Garvey?s Office Products is seeking a Driver Lead / Swing Driver to support daily delivery operations and execute route coverage across the Chicagoland area.



This role combines hands-on route execution with operational support responsibilities, serving as a key bridge between drivers, warehouse, and management. The Driver Lead will provide flexible route coverage, assist in resolving delivery issues in real time, and reinforce company standards to ensure consistent service performance.



The ideal candidate is a reliable, detail-oriented operator who leads by example, communicates effectively across teams, and steps in where needed to maintain daily execution in a fast-paced distribution environment.



Key Responsibilities



Route Execution, Safety & Compliance




  • Safely operate company vehicles to deliver products to customer locations

  • Provide flexible route coverage as a swing driver based on daily operational needs

  • Ensure deliveries are completed accurately and on time

  • Capture proof of delivery (POD) via photos and recipient signatures

  • Perform pretrip inspections

  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report maintenance needs immediately

  • Adhere to all company safety policies and DOT regulations



Driver Lead & Operational Support




  • Act as a point of escalation for delivery issues in the field

  • Support communication between drivers, routing, warehouse, and customer service

  • Assist in resolving failed deliveries and service exceptions in real time

  • Reinforce company standards through example and peer accountability

  • Ensure accurate communication and documentation of delivery exceptions, discrepancies, and returns

  • Provide crossfunctional support across warehouse and delivery operations as needed to ensure daily execution and service levels are met



Performance & KPI Support




  • Support delivery performance goals, including:

    • OTD (98%+ target)

    • POD Compliance



  • Assist with basic KPI tracking and reporting (missed deliveries, service issues, trends)

  • Identify recurring issues and escalate root causes to management
