COMPENSATION: 

Starting Salary for this position is determined by the HOLLA School salary schedule, which includes summer program staffing. This is a full time, exempt position. Salary is in addition to full medical, vision, and dental insurance, and PERS retirement benefit contributions (eligible immediately for current PERS participants, eligible 6 months after employment begins for new PERS participants). All HOLLA School staff receive professional development, supervision, mentor training, and reporting support. 

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Educational Assistant (EA) is a vital member of the HOLLA School team, dedicated to providing support to scholars with diverse learning needs. This role focuses on implementing individualized educational plans and 504 plans through a lens of cultural responsiveness, ensuring that every scholar feels seen, and experiences belonging within the classroom environment.

The EA must be able to “bridge the gap” between traditional special education and culturally specific and culturally honoring pedagogies. The EA works collaboratively with the Special Education Resource Teacher and the Student Engagement Coordinator. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Scholar Support: Provide dedicated assistance to scholars with individualized learning needs, ensuring accommodations are implemented, adapting classroom activities and environments to ensure accessibility and meaningful engagement.
  • Teacher Support: Assist teachers in the instruction and support of scholars in various settings including the general education classroom, resource room, playground, lunch room, sensory rooms, etc.
  • Implementation of IEP Goals and Accommodations: Collaborate with Special Education Teacher, Classroom Teachers, Classroom Mentors, the Student Engagement Coordinator and the HOLLA School Administrators, to implement Individualized Education Plans and 504 Plans.
  • Data and Documentation: Track progress and provide data-driven support. Complete all required documentation with strong attention to detail and accuracy, and in a timely manner.
  • Restorative Behavioral Support: Employ restorative practices and healing-centered approaches to manage behavioral challenges, focusing on de-escalation, emotional regulation, and rebuilding community connections.
  • Push-In Assistance: Provide "push-in" support in classrooms to foster an inclusive environment where scholars are fully integrated into the school community.
  • If you are assigned a student with special needs, duties may include providing for scholars’ personal care needs (i.e. transitions, sensory breaks, wheelchair transition, bathroom needs, recording medical and personal care needs, physical movement and lifting of students, etc.)
  • If you have bilingual skills, duties may include providing oral and/or written interpretation and translation for students and their families.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education: 

  • High School Diploma, equivalent or higher; or combined relevant experience 

Demonstrated Experience in the Following: 

  • Working with elementary aged children who experience neurodivergence 
  • Using restorative justice practices and a proactive approach to scholar support 
  • Commitment to healing-centered engagement and culturally responsive pedagogical practice
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with scholars from diverse backgrounds

Other: 

  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Adaptable and flexible to be able to meet scholars’ and HOLLA School’s needs
  • Exercise sound professional judgment to ensure a safe and positive environment for all scholars
  • Receive direction and feedback with an open mind 
  • Comfortable providing redirection to youth that centers on their inherent value and assets 
  • Physical requirement of ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, and lift up to 50 lbs 
  • All HOLLA School Staff are subject to a pre-employment background check as part of the pre-employment process as well as on an ongoing basis
