About the Department

Join the Board of Elections Department as an Elections Clerk!    This is a great opportunity for someone with elections experience and/or office administration background to administer elections in a major jurisdiction and to be a part of an organization that promotes innovation and modernizing elections administration.  

This is a temporary position to assist with the upcoming election. This position will assist the Board of Election’s staff with daily office procedures providing accurate information to the public; processing, sorting, collecting, and distributing income mail; scan, review, file, and data entry voter registration forms, absentee request forms and various election documents; assist with campaign finance administrative tasks; assist with poll worker training administrative tasks; assist with  preparing supplies for the voting sites, voting machine set-up, and laptop set-up;   travel to an assigned geographical area to provide on-site support or transport supplies/equipment;  and collaborate with team members on various projects.


Hours of work are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, but must be available to work overtime including evenings and weekends.  Hours and dates are subject to change during early voting.

Special Requirements
Selected candidate will be required to successfully pass a more stringent criminal background check per N.C.G.S. § 163-27.2(f): “A county board of elections shall require a criminal history record check of all current or prospective employees of the county board of elections, as defined in G.S. 163-37.1(a)(1), who have or will have access to the statewide computerized voter registration system maintained under G.S. 163-82.11 and for any additional position or function as the State Board may designate
.


Position Duties

A successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Considerable knowledge of the use, application, and operation of personal computer hardware and software.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Communicate with others tactfully and courteously over the telephone and in-person.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, departments, counties, and the public.

Maintain an effective and efficient workflow in order to perform in an accurate and timely manner following guidelines pursuant to NC election laws.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or GED and two years of election experience.

Must maintain a valid NC Driver's License.

A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.


Other Qualifications

If you are selected for this position, your duties would include the following:
Answering incoming phone calls and provide early voting and election related information to voters and poll workers.

Scanning, reviewing, filing, and data entry of voter registration forms and various election documents.

Assist with campaign finance administrative tasks.

Assist with poll worker training administrative tasks.

Assist with preparing supplies for the voting sites, voting machine set up and laptop set up.

Assist with processing, sorting, collecting and distributing incoming mail.

Traveling to an assigned geographical area to provide on-site support or transport supplies/equipment.
