Job Description

Emergency Management Senior Specialist

 

This position performs a variety of highly responsible, complex assignments that requires a strong skill set in technology familiarity and utilization, experience in emergency management, emergency operations center systems, organizational administration, and public speaking and outreach.

 

The employee will have the responsibility of:

·         Participating in the OHSEM office team regarding various organizational development and public outreach initiatives

·         Coordinating the planning and response of, opening public shelters, and implementing special needs plans and programs

·         Providing support to team members to ensure the Emergency Operations Center is operationally ready

·         Monitoring program requirements and activity deadlines established by the Texas Division of Emergency Management, FEMA/DHS to complete quarterly activity reports, surveys, and other documents required by agencies for continuation of Emergency Management Performance Grant funding

·         Researching grant opportunities, assist in writing grant proposals, in monitoring grants, and maintaining active grants

·         Responding to all activations of the Emergency Operations Center

·         Serving as 24/7 Duty Officer on a rotating basis with other OHSEM staff

Required Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

·     Associate degree with specialized course work in Emergency Management, Public Administration, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, Business Administration, Sociology, or a related field; and

·       One (1) year of related work experience, or

·       Any equivalent combination of related education and experience equating to 3 years

 

Special Requirements:

·         Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License by date of hire

·         Must complete the following within 6 months of hire:

o   FEMA’s Professional Development Series

o   ICS 100, 200, 300,

o   400FEMA IS 700, and IS 800

·      IAEM CEM/AEM or State Association CEM/AEM preferred.

·   While on Duty Officer assignment, the Duty Officer must respond to emergency calls and be within sixty (60) minutes physical response time to the City’s Office of Emergency Management headquarters location

·    Required to work nights, weekends, holidays, during inclement weather, when necessary, due to EOC activation and/or while fulfilling the role of Duty Officer
