Role Overview
The Piping Engineer III is responsible for developing piping system designs that meet code, contract, and schedule requirements for Mitsubishi Power gas turbine power projects. This role primarily focuses on piping systems associated with large frame industrial gas turbines while supporting broader plant system integration as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply and interpret ASME B31.1 and B31.3 codes to ensure compliance in piping design and vendor requirements.
- Respond to technical inquiries from customers, vendors, and field personnel.
- Review contracts, schedules, and requirements to define piping scope, deliverables, and timelines.
- Coordinate with parent company engineering teams to align schedules and documentation.
- Participate in project kickoffs and maintain piping document control and deliverables.
- Develop and evaluate specifications for piping fabrication, supports, and specialty components.
- Monitor subcontractor engineering and fabrication progress, including shop visits.
- Review piping isometrics, P&IDs, and mechanical drawings to ensure design accuracy.
- Generate piping component lists and reports from P&IDs and 3D models.
- Perform piping design activities and support system design improvements.
- Prepare and maintain piping-related engineering calculations.
- Support pipe stress analysis, design philosophy, and pipe support systems.
- Develop corrective actions to address nonconformance and improve quality.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to process and procedure improvements.
- Interface with EPC contractors, customers, and internal teams to ensure alignment on engineering deliverables.
- Support supplier qualification and purchasing activities.
- Travel up to 20%, including occasional international assignments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
- Minimum 7 years of piping engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of piping codes and standards (ASME, MSS, PFI, etc.).
- Experience with piping design, stress analysis, and material specifications.
- Familiarity with 3D modeling tools and engineering software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally in EPC project environments.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of welding, NDE processes, and material applications preferred.
