Entry Level Production Worker – Sofidel America

Sofidel America is seeking dedicated Production Employees to join our Lewiston team. We are looking to hire in our Converting, Paper Machines, and Plant Support/Warehouse areas. The entry level roles are responsible for operating and monitoring Bathroom Tissue, Household Towel or Napkin machines and/or the support of these operations in a continuous production environment. The Production Employees play a critical role in ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency while contributing to the success of our production operations. Following 90 days of employment, this is a union covered position.
Depending on the position, key responsibilities may include:
- Support operations and assist experienced operators.
- Assist with maintenance activities during machine downtime.
- Manage yield, waste, and raw material use.
- Load materials for machine operations and changeovers.
- Monitor and troubleshoot machines using computer controls.
- Maintain cleanliness in and around machines with regular washups and blowdowns.
- Work with Maintenance for mechanical issues.
- Perform quality checks throughout the shift.
- Move raw materials manually or with cranes.
- Operate forklifts and clamp trucks safely and efficiently.
- Conduct minor maintenance tasks and routine equipment inspections.
- Participate in training programs and apply learned skills on the job.
- Maintain high safety standards and apply learned skills on the job.
- Follow all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout and PPE.
- Assist in safety investigations and root cause analysis.
- Keep the work area clean and organized.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 1+ years of continuous employment required; industrial or paper manufacturing experience preferred.
- Basic computer skills; familiarity with work order systems preferred.
- Physically demanding role: exposure to temperature extremes, noise, dust, and chemicals.
- Experience with forklifts preferred but not required.
- Perform manual labor: standing, bending, climbing, and using tools for 12-hour shifts.
- Lift up to 40 lbs frequently; heavier loads require team or crane assistance.
- Wear required PPE (eye/ear protection, steel-toe shoes).
- Work 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
