We are looking for an Environmental Specialist to join our team. You are going to work closely with a team of experts on Infrastructure projects across North America. We are proud to have contributed to projects like the Fargo-Moorhead Flood Diversion in Fargo, ND, the Potomac River Crossing in Washington, DC, and the Second Avenue Subway Design-Build in New York City.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Be a key contributor in large infrastructure project environmental management - environmental review planning, permitting, construction operations, and preventative maintenance - as well as project planning
  • Support solving engineering problems and challenges while maintaining a healthy environment presently and for the future 
  • Perform design reviews and identify project requirements, evaluate environmental analysis documents and identify risks and needed actions, preparation and review of environmental reports and design planning chapters
  • Conduct site inspections and investigations from time-to-time
  • Prepare standard documents, such as technical specifications and accreditation requirements
  • Research and review nature-based design options for both technical and financial impact, and work with design teams to identify environmental impacts and opportunities for reduction
  • Report to agencies and lead client or team meetings

On top of that, you will have:

  • Hold Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Environmental Science or natural sciences, with a minimum of 5 years of related experience in environmental planning, environmental regulatory analysis or correspondence, utility operations or land use management, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Knowledge of natural resource and land use regulations in NYC, including water resources and infrastructure planning and a general knowledge of US environmental law
  • Knowledge of infrastructure, environmental permitting and monitoring requirements
  • Knowledge of Sustainable Infrastructure principles - including accreditations such as ISI Envision, creative approaches to project planning, and reviewing and communicating sustainability opportunities for design planning and engineering. Knowledge of municipal and state sustainability requirements are an asset.  
  • Engage in professional associations. and have the ability and willingness to learn
  • Have advanced planning and organizational skills combined with the ability to work in a time-sensitive situation on multiple deadlines
  • Have high written and verbal communication skills including the proficient use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Be familiar with GIS software programs for analysis and visualization
  • Be comfortable communicating complex technical topics to a variety of audiences and be capable of navigating nuances in environmental analysis and requirements
  • Be comfortable reading design engineering drawings and interpreting environmental assessments, engineering reports, land use details, standards and codes, and environmental regulations
  • Be comfortable communicating with officials and engaging with regulatory and accreditation agencies
  • Be able to work with staff located remotely - willingness to travel is an asset

Base compensation: $88,000 to $136,200 for New York location only. Actual compensation is subject to variations due to education, experience, skill set and/or location
