About the Department
The Residential Equipment Operator - Solid Waste drives, operates, and maintains assorted equipment and machinery, including side-load refuse vehicles, tractors, backhoes, and other heavy equipment. Primary assignments include the collection of residential contained trash and recyclable materials. Secondary assignment includes assisting with the solid waste bulk trash collections for uncontained trash, utilizing appropriate equipment. This position may also work with other divisions/departments and perform related duties as assigned or required. This position may require overtime to meet operational needs.
Position Duties
Operates solid waste vehicles/equipment in support of daily solid waste trash and recycling routes including side loader, rear loader, and brush truck. May also operate other equipment such as tractor, street sweeper, loader/backhoe, and/or other equipment.
Complies with DOT rules and regulations by conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections, maintaining equipment, performing spot checks, checking fluids, fueling vehicles, and ensuring all parts are functioning properly.
Assembles and repairs plastic waste containers by installing or replacing wheels, axles, and lids. Delivers containers to customers.
Completes daily work logs and prepares paperwork necessary for daily operations.

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalency is required.
An equivalent combination of education and job-related experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
One (1) year of experience operating heavy equipment.
Valid Arizona Class B Commercial Driver's License and a current DOT medical examination certificate are required.
