General Description
The Erosion Control Laborer is responsible for assisting in the installation and maintenance of erosion and sediment control measures on construction sites. This role involves performing physical labor, operating hand tools, and ensuring environmental compliance under the supervision of the Erosion Control Foreman.
Key Duties
Erosion Control & Site Preparation:
- Assist in the installation and maintenance of temporary erosion and sediment control devices, including silt fences, filter socks, straw blowing, matting, and seeding.
- Perform rough and fine grading and assist in placing aggregate.
- Read and follow construction plans and site layouts to complete work accurately.
Equipment Operation & Manual Labor:
- Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, picks, staple guns, post-hole diggers, and tamps to complete tasks.
- Operate basic construction equipment as needed for erosion control projects.
- Assist in the loading, unloading, and movement of materials.
Safety & Compliance:
- Maintain safety standards by following company policies and OSHA regulations.
- Ensure proper equipment maintenance and safe usage.
- Maintain awareness of job site hazards and actively participate in safety meetings.
General Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Erosion Control Foreman and team members to complete daily tasks.
- Communicate professionally with supervisors, teammates, and contractors.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet company needs.
Qualification Requirements
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Prior experience in erosion control, landscaping, or construction is a plus.
- Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively.
Skills & Competencies:
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Experience using hand tools and small construction equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
Physical Demands
- Constant standing, bending, stooping, and crouching for at least 8 hours per shift.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs frequently and up to 150 lbs with assistance.
- Perform manual labor using hand tools requiring upper body strength up to 40 lbs.
- Walk frequently on uneven terrain in varying weather conditions.
- Maintain constant awareness of surrounding construction site activities.
Work Environment
- Outdoor construction sites in all weather conditions.
- Exposure to high noise levels, dust, grease, and heavy machinery.
- Work near moving equipment and construction materials.
- Handling of substances such as form oil, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and asphalt.
