Job Description

Description

Estimators are accountable for the analysis, content generation, and accurate response inbound inquires, especially leads and RFPs. The primary objective is to properly review, understand and scope bid requests, to generate comprehensive, accurate and competitive proposals. The Estimator will work within strict deadlines to ensure potential and repeat customers are receiving the information they need, while positioning SmartLam North America to be the leading contender in competitive bidding processes. This role works closely with members of the Sales and Project Management teams to win contracts and meet corporate sales goals. 


Duties and Responsibilities

    Review inbound RFPs, RFQs, prequalification requests, etc. 

    Review project plans and specifications to develop mass timber product specifications.

    Own full-cycle preconstruction/pre-contract customer relationships, from early conceptual pricing through multiple bid rounds to final award. 

    Manage multiple proposals, changing priorities, and deadlines.

    Solicit technical support, value engineering, scope and pricing input, etc. from internal Engineering/Design team in an organized and proactive manner.

    Collaborate closely with project managers and production team members in late bid rounds as needed to deliver competitive proposals while maintaining margin targets.  

    Close leads and transfer contracted opportunities to PM and Engineering/Design teams.

    Provide feedback and support to continuously improve quoting tools and templates.

    Accurately reviews bids to ensure compliance with bid documents.

    Lead bid reviews with customers as requested.

    Follow up on submitted bids to collect competitive intelligence and maximize odds of closure.  

Required Skills & Experience

    Associate degree in construction management, drafting, or equivalent.

    2+ years of experience in commercial construction industry. 

    Experience with estimating software such as Building Connected and Bluebeam Revu.

    Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products 

    Highly organized and detailed-oriented

    Capable of multi-tasking and managing multiple projects and changing priorities

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred Skills & Experience

    Experience with 3D software programs such as Revit, CAD work, AutoCAD.

    Demonstrated success in B2B sales.

    2+ years of experience in sales and/or estimating capacity.

    Familiarity with engineered wood products. 

    Prior experience working in an office environment for a commercial general contractor.
