JOB SUMMARY


Under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor, Parks, this position performs a wide range of tasks involving the cleaning and maintenance of City facilities. This position may require evening and weekend hours. It is required at times to work unscheduled overtime.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


  • Performs janitorial duties including, but not limited to, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and waxing floors; dusting/polishing furniture, windowsills, and woodwork; cleaning windows, doors, and other glass surfaces; cleaning and stocking restrooms; and trash removal.
  • Performs minor repair work such as clearing clogged plumbing drains, replacing light bulbs and ballasts, small drywall repairs, and painting.
  • Maintains inventories and stock of cleaning equipment and supplies, and advises supervisor when supplies require reordering.
  • Performs exterior maintenance to ensure walkways and entrance overhangs are clear of hazards and debris.
  • Assists with the set up and breakdown of events.
  • Patrols, monitors, and inspects all parks to ensure health and safety standards are maintained.
  • Utilizes insecticides to prevent infestation by dangerous pests.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS AND KSA'S


Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent; one (1) year of experience in janitorial or custodial work, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications:
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
  • May be required to work flexible shift hours in order to accomplish some cleaning tasks outside of normal customer service hours.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of general janitorial work.
  • Skill in effective communication both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use supplies and equipment associated with general janitorial work.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and stoop for extended periods of the workday.
  • Ability to work outdoors with various environmental conditions.
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, City Staff members, and the general public.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION


The work is medium work, which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires standing or sitting for sustained periods of time; walking or moving from one work site to another; manual dexterity to pick, pinch, type, or otherwise work primarily with fingers; mental acuity including the ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes; hearing to receive detailed information and to make the discrimination in sound; and the ability to express ideas by means of the spoken word and have close visual acuity. Additionally, the following physical abilities may be required:

  • Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Work is typically performed in a safe and secure work environment, where the employee may periodically experience unpredicted requirements or demands.
