About the Department
HAVEN is a non-profit 501 (c ) (3) organization committed to providing safety to victims and survivors of domestic violence and rape/sexual assault. Supported by state and federal grants, foundations, and the generosity of community members, churches, civic organizations, small businesses and large corporations, HAVEN works with partner organizations to help create violence-free relationships and a violence-free community. HAVEN is the only confidential violence prevention/sexual assault program and shelter serving all of Lee County. Originally incorporated in October, 1987 as The Lee County Family and Rape Crisis Center, HAVEN in Lee County came into existence when Articles of Amendment were approved by the Secretary of State in September, 1995.
Position Duties
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Victim Advocate will provide services that are tangible, goal-directed interactions, advocacy, and assistance to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The Victim Advocate will assist both residential and non-residential clients with crisis intervention, court advocacy services, developing short-term and long-term goals, safety plans, and facilitate the coordination of services from multiple service providers.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be eligible for the Federal Work Study Program as determined by the Financial Aid Office
- Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
- • Able to multi-task and prioritize duties in a high-pressure situation
• Able to handle crisis situations with diplomacy and tact
• Able to develop and maintain relationships with staff and volunteers
• Experience working as part of a team as well as handling crisis individually with quality decision makings skills
• Able to work within a complex, fast paced and rapidly changing work environment
• Able to effectively problem solve and achieve conflict resolution
• Experience working with a diverse population
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to organize and manage work time
• Basic computer skills are required, including Microsoft Office products and databases
• Commitment to contributing to a positive work culture
• Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with a diversity of individuals, organizations, and government agencies
• Demonstrated interest and commitment to working with victims of sexual and domestic violence; understanding of and commitment to issues of cultural diversity as they apply to sexual and domestic violence prevention, intervention, and services; ability and willingness to work with people from a variety of backgrounds and experience
• Valid Driver’s License
