Job Title: Field Service Engineer
Location: Brownhills (covering HS2 – Birmingham area)
Contract: Full-time, permanent
We are looking for a Field Service Engineer to be based from our Brownhills depot, supporting the High Speed Rail (HS2) project across the Birmingham area. This is a key role focused on delivering a first-class service to both internal and external customers, while actively identifying opportunities to maximise service revenue and promote our aftermarket solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Service, maintain, and repair Volvo construction equipment and related machinery
- Diagnose mechanical faults using technical expertise and diagnostic equipment, providing clear advice to customers
- Work in a commercially focused way, identifying and discussing additional revenue opportunities with customers, Customer Support Representatives, and your Line Manager
- Carry out work in line with quotations and time guides, flagging any additional work requirements
- Ensure all software updates are installed as new releases become available
- Complete all tablet inputs, job reports, and timesheets in real time with accurate detail
- Order and manage parts efficiently, ensuring returns are clean and completed promptly
- Support business needs through overtime and call-out participation where required
- Attend product and systems training to maintain and develop technical knowledge
About You
- NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Plant Maintenance, HGV, Agricultural Engineering, or similar
- Strong experience working on heavy plant equipment, including diesel engines, hydraulics, transmissions, and electrics
- Advanced diagnostic and fault-finding skills, with a strong understanding of hydraulics, electrics, and EATS systems
- Confident communicator when dealing with customers, colleagues, and management
- Commercial awareness with a focus on cost control and profitability
- Strong problem-solving ability with high attention to detail
- IT literate, confident using systems and completing digital job records
- Reliable, conscientious, and professional in all aspects of work
- Able to interpret technical manuals and documentation
Desirable:
- Welding and fabrication experience
