Field Technician

GPD Geotechnical Services is currently seeking a Field Technician in our Akron, Ohio office location to support the Geotechnical practice.
Are you looking for a career that gets you outdoors performing field site visits? As a Field Technician you will travel from site to site coordinating with the drill crews, field staff and project teams providing operations support in the form of performing equipment setup, assisting drill crews, heavy lifting and general support site labor activities for project completion.
Job Responsibilities:
- The work requires a practical knowledge of supporting field crews onsite, handling and maintaining equipment and working in a team environment successfully.
- Assist driller with handling augers, rods, and samplers weighting up to 50 pounds.
- Support equipment setup, site layout, and demobilization activies.
- Load, unload and transport equipment and materials to and from job sites.
- Assist with collection andmhandlling of soil and groundwater samples by labeling, organizing and preparing them for transport to our lab.
- Maintain clean, organized and safe work areas.
- Drive heavy duty pickups and towing trailers under CDL weight
- Travel locally with overnight travel during teh work week as needed.
- Interacting with a variety of people contributing to field projects: construction/engineers/architects/geologist.
- Responsible for adherence to all safety rules and regulations.
Role Qualifications:
- High School Diploma attained.
- Prior field experience in construction, drilling preferred but not required.
- Ability to coordinate and communicate with drill crews, field staff and project teams.
- Ability to drive/operate heavy-duty truck and trailers.
- Values safe practices in transporting equipment, heavy lifting and moving of equipment and while drilling teams are actively on site and working.
- Willingness to travel five days a week including overnight stays; out-of state travel required
- Ability to coordinate airfare, lodging, rental car, site access, etc.
- Strong communication skills and self-motivated. Values teamwork.
- High level of attention to detail
- Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record that is acceptable to GPD Insurance requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Physically mobile in and around the laboratory, construction sites and field assignments.
- Ability to carry required instruments and equipment.
- Ability to safely lift 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to bend, stand and be on one’s feet for long periods of time.
- Field work requires the ability to navigate uneven and sloping terrain. The worker is subject to variable climate and environmental conditions including but not limited to cold and heat.
- Ability to work long hourse with 10 hours or more of overtime per week possible.
