The Financial Analyst will support the Chancery Finance Office in providing accounting and financial services to parishes, schools, Chancery, and other diocesan entities. The role is a key part of the Diocese’s evolving shared services model.
This position will focus primarily on accounting and bookkeeping functions, while also providing exposure to financial planning, budgeting, and audit-related activities. The Financial Analyst will work closely with members of the Chancery Finance Office team and will receive structured training to build a strong foundation in Diocesan financial operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a willingness to learn new systems, processes, and financial concepts, with the ability to grow into expanded responsibilities over time.
This position is well suited for either a recent graduate seeking to build a career in finance or an experienced professional looking to apply their skills in a mission-driven environment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Provide accounting and bookkeeping support, including but not limited to processing accounts payable and receivable, maintaining general ledger activity, performing bank and account reconciliations, assisting with month-end close tasks, and supporting the preparation and review of financial records and reports
· Support the transition of financial functions into the Diocese’s shared services model by helping onboard new entities and establishing consistent processes and procedures
· Assist with budgeting and financial planning processes, including but not limited to gathering data, preparing supporting schedules, and monitoring performance against budget
· Support financial reviews, internal audits, and external audit processes by preparing documentation, reconciling balances, and assisting with requests from auditors and internal stakeholders
· Prepare financial reports and supporting materials for leadership, including parish finance councils, and assist in communicating financial results and insights to non-financial stakeholders
· Collaborate with Chancery Finance Office team members and parish staff to resolve discrepancies, improve workflows, and implement best practices across multiple locations
· Participate in structured training and cross-functional development across accounting, financial planning, and audit disciplines, with the goal of gradually taking on increased responsibility, including direct support of individual parishes or entities
· Provide support for special projects and evolving Chancery Finance Office initiatives as the Diocese continues to expand and refine its shared services model
· Assist with ad hoc financial projects, and other responsibilities as needed
· Foundational understanding of accounting principles and/or GAAP
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with QuickBooks is preferred but not required
· Demonstrated awareness of and support for the Catholic Church and its mission and traditions
· Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
· Eagerness to learn through hands-on experience, training, and collaboration with team members across multiple functional areas
· Flexible and able to respond to changes in the responsibilities and in the work environment
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or management
Work Environment:
· Position is primarily in-office, with occasional travel to other diocesan locations as required
· Following successful completion of an initial training period (approximately three months), eligibility for a hybrid work arrangement of up to one remote workday per week may be considered
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Must be able to lift 15lbs at times
