Job Skills / Requirements
Lagarda Security is seeking a skilled and reliable Fleet Mechanic to support our statewide operations. Our vehicles are the backbone of our service delivery, and this role ensures every patrol unit, transport vehicle, and specialty asset remains safe, compliant, and mission-ready.
Position Summary
The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and inspecting all Lagarda Security vehicles to ensure they remain safe, reliable, and compliant with Michigan and federal regulations. This position directly supports daily operational readiness and plays a critical role in keeping our teams equipped to serve clients across the state.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED
- Must have a clean criminal background
- Must possess a valid Michigan Operator’s License
- Preferred: Mechanics license, ASE certifications, CDL
- OR: Minimum 2 years of hands-on mechanic experience
Core Responsibilities
Preventative Maintenance (PM)
- Perform routine oil changes, fluid flushes, filter replacements, and scheduled PM services
- Fuel company vehicles as needed
- Inspect belts, hoses, batteries, and other wear-items to prevent breakdowns
Diagnostics
- Use advanced diagnostic scanners and software to identify electrical, engine, and transmission issues
- Troubleshoot drivability concerns, warning lights, and intermittent faults
Repairs
- Replace brake pads, rotors, calipers, suspension components, and steering parts
- Repair or replace cooling fans, batteries, flat tires, and driveline components
- Address additional vehicle-related issues as they arise
Safety Inspections
- Conduct DOT-aligned inspections of lights, tires, brakes, and safety equipment
- Ensure all vehicles meet Michigan and federal compliance standards
Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate digital or paper logs documenting repairs, inspections, and maintenance history
- Track mileage-based service intervals for each assigned vehicle
- Submit purchase requests and maintain detailed records of all parts, materials, and proof of purchases
- Able to work Microsoft Word, Excel and Google Docs and Gmail
Key Skills & Requirements
Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of gasoline engines
- Familiarity with Ford, Lincoln, Jeep, and Chrysler vehicle platforms
- Knowledge of electrical systems and vehicle computer networks
Tool Proficiency
- Skilled in diagnostic scanners, power tools, hand tools, and welding equipment when needed
Preferred Certifications
- ASE (Automotive Service Excellence)
- CDL or other advanced driving credentials
