About the Department
Reporting to the Food Services Supervisor, this position assists with the coordination, preparation and serving of meals in accordance with various regulations and standards. Ensures safety, security and sanitation of kitchen and food items; cleans kitchen, equipment, utensils and containers. inventory Performs other duties as apparent and/or assigned. |
Position Duties
- Assist with the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals and snacks according to approved menus and recipes.
- Portion and distribute meals while ensuring proper serving sizes and dietary compliance.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations, including proper food handling and storage procedures.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, food preparation areas, dining areas, and storage spaces.
- Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Receive, inspect, and properly store food and supply deliveries.
- Monitor food inventory and report shortages, damaged goods, or expired products.
- Maintain accurate food production, temperature, and sanitation records.
- Assist in accommodating special dietary needs, allergies, and medically prescribed meals.
- Adhere to all facility security protocols, including inventory and control of kitchen tools and equipment.
- Maintain professional interactions with juvenile residents while supporting a safe, structured environment.
- Report safety concerns, maintenance issues, or unusual incidents to supervisors promptly.
- Participate in required safety, food service, and detention facility training.
- Perform other duties as apparent and/or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High school diploma/equivalent plus experience in food services operations such as a fast-food or restaurant setting; experience in an institutional setting such as a corrections facility, hospital or school preferred. Must be able to safely operate various kitchen appliances with possible exposure to intense heat, electrical hazards and fumes. Must have a public service attitude and ability to interact in a courteous and professional manner with various regulatory agencies, staff, detainees and other individuals.
LICENSE / CERTIFICATION
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Texas Food Handler’s Card
