Garden Manager

Department: Gardens and Grounds

Job Summary
Goodstone Inn and Restaurant is seeking a hands-on Garden Manager to lead the care, planning, production, and presentation of our gardens, vegetable gardens, pumpkin patch, seasonal plantings, and guest-facing outdoor spaces. This role manages the Vegetable Garden Supervisor and Gardener, working closely with the Grounds team to ensure the property reflects Goodstone’s standards of beauty, care, and hospitality.
The Garden Manager will support Goodstone’s farm-to-table experience by partnering with the Executive Chef on garden planning, harvest schedules, and kitchen product needs. This is a working leadership role for someone who understands horticulture, seasonal planning, vegetable production, soil health, estate presentation, and team accountability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, train, schedule, and support the Garden team
  • Plan and oversee seasonal garden priorities, including vegetable production, flower beds, ornamental plantings, pumpkin patch planning, and guest-facing garden areas. 
  • Develop and execute crop planning, planting and harvest schedules, crop rotation, and seasonal transitions. 
  • Partner with the culinary team to support Goodstone’s farm-to-table program through garden planning and timely harvest communication. 
  • Monitor the appearance and productivity of vegetable gardens, flower beds, trees, and landscaped areas. 
  • Ensure garden beds, pathways, guest-facing outdoor areas, and seasonal displays are maintained to Goodstone’s boutique hospitality standards. 
  • Monitor soil health and recommend appropriate amendments, fertilization, composting, and sustainable garden practices. 
  • Identify and address plant pests, weeds, and diseases using responsible and eco-conscious methods whenever possible. 
  • Maintain irrigation systems within garden areas and coordinate larger repairs or needs with the Grounds team. 
  • Maintain garden tools, equipment, supplies, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized manner. 
  • Communicate clearly with leadership and other departments regarding garden priorities, staffing needs, product availability, and property concerns. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in horticulture, estate gardening, vegetable production, small-scale farming, landscape management, or a related field. 
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Knowledge of vegetable gardening, crop rotation, succession planting, soil health, irrigation, pest prevention, and seasonal garden planning. 
  • Experience maintaining high-end, guest-facing, private estate, resort, inn, or hospitality grounds preferred. 
  • Familiarity with sustainable and eco-conscious gardening practices. 
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. 
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating with Grounds, Culinary, Guest Services, Events, and leadership teams. 
  • Comfortable working outdoors year-round and performing hands-on physical work. 
Schedule
Full-time. Must be able to work a varied schedule, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and seasonal needs based on weather, garden production, and property priorities.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, kneel, climb stairs, use hands and arms for tools and equipment, and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. This position requires the ability to navigate Goodstone’s property and perform outdoor manual work year-round.
