Position Duties
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adds, updates, deletes, and imports/exports data in a versioned environment within the city's Enterprise Geodatabases
- Uses geoprocessing models, ArcGIS Pro tasks, or established scripts to perform routine GIS data processing
- Maintains city addressing data and responds to addressing requests, including subdivisions and development projects, in accordance with the City Addressing Manual and established workflows
- Communicates with other city departments, outside agencies, and citizens about changes to city addressing.
- Maintains the city’s planimetric GIS data, including but not limited to addresses, buildings, streets, and various city assets
- Responsible for adding, deleting, and updating features in GIS databases as conditions change on the ground
- Assists city staff in identifying GIS needs and supports basic departmental maps and applications using established templates and standards
- Creates maps and basic GIS products in a variety of formats, including PDF maps and Esri (Environmental Systems Research Institute) tools such as Web Maps, Survey123, Dashboards, and Field Maps, to present GIS data in clear, easy-to-understand formats
- Assists GIS users by performing basic troubleshooting and by installing and configuring GIS software on client desktop computers as needed
- Trains City staff on GIS related applications and tools including Desktop GIS, Web GIS, and mobile data collection/tracking
- Assists with small GIS projects and completes assigned tasks within established deadlines
- Documents work performed, and assists with maintaining standard operating procedures and GIS documentation
- Supports GIS functions associated with public safety and emergency response systems, including participation in after-hours emergency support as assigned
- Safely operates a vehicle to project sites and other field locations to collect, verify, and update geographic and asset-related data used in GIS databases and mapping applications
- Uses coordinate geometry (COGO) tools to create and edit easements, parcels, and related land records features based on legal descriptions and recorded documents
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned consistent with the scope and level of this position
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Associate's degree or completion of at least two (2) years of college level coursework in a related field; or
if the degree/coursework is not in a related field, one (1) year of GIS experience or GIS coursework with practical application is required
- Valid driver's license
- Or any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the above Minimum Requirements
DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
- Up to three (3) years of GIS-related experience
- Completion of GIS coursework focused on spatial analysis, cartography, or database concepts
- Esri Technical Certification(s) is desired
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid Arizona driver’s license
- Must have the ability to be contacted and to respond in a timely manner and be willing and able to perform emergency work on weekends, evenings and holidays, as directed
- Regular and reliable attendance is required to support continuity of GIS operations, coordination with internal customers, and timely completion of assigned tasks
