About the Department
Henderson Golf Course, part of Chatham County Parks and Recreation, has an opening for a Golf Course Maintenance-2nd Assistant. If you meet the minimum qualifications, you are encouraged to apply!
Position Duties
- Perform skilled maintenance tasks in the care of landscaped areas and supervise a crew of unskilled or semi-skilled workers.
- Develop and maintain a year-round grounds and landscaping program based on accepted standards.
- Cultivate, water, and trim hedges, lawns, trees, and shrubs in planted areas in and out of buildings.
- Maintain underground sprinkler systems, lay sod, and mow lawns by hand or with power-driven equipment.
- Maintain a chemical herbicide program to control garden pests and undesirable vegetation.
- Serve as the lead worker and will be responsible for training and scheduling assigned employees.
- May operate medium-weight equipment such as a small backhoe, hole augers, or other grounds maintenance equipment.
- Work as part of the Critical Work Force Category 2, must be able to be on call on a 24-hour rotating basis, and must be able to work nights and weekends in emergencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED, and
- At least three (3) years of experience in grounds or golf course maintenance, or
- Possession of a Turf Maintenance Certificate from a technical institution; or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Must possess a Commercial Turf and Ornamental Herbicide and Pesticide Applicators License with the State of Georgia in Category 24 Ornamental and Turf.
- Must provide and wear approved steel toe protective footwear during regular working hours.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of the Master Gardener program.
- Supervisory or lead experience.

Eligibility for benefits begins on your date of hire.Full-time employees working a regular schedule of 30 or more hours per week are eligible for County benefits. Part-time, seasonal, and temporary employees are not eligible to participate in the County benefit plan.
