Description

SUMMARY

SEASONAL Greenkeepers perform routine manual labor involved in golf course maintenance; do semi-skilled grounds construction and maintenance work; operate small hand-powered equipment; and occasionally perform work involving small scale mowing equipment.  Each groundskeeper may be assigned responsibility for the care and maintenance of several designated holes on the golf course and does related work as required.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This list of tasks is illustrative ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.   • Operates a variety of small hand held tools & equipment to perform a variety of routine manual labor related to the upkeep and maintenance of the golf course including the use of string trimmers, hedge trimmers, chain saws, sod cutters, and other hand and powered tools utilized in landscape maintenance Operates a variety of small ride-on mowing and maintenance equipment
  • Maintains fuel and fluid levels for all types of equipment on a daily basis; reports equipment problems or failure to the Head Mechanic, Lead Mechanic and/or the Lead greenkeeper
  • Changes cups and sets tee blocks, Rakes bunkers, maintains ball washers; replaces tee towels and flags when needed; removes debris; sands and seeds tee and drop area divots; and cleans flower beds.
  • Returns all equipment to the designated location at the maintenance facility; and cleans the maintenance areas.
  • Waters and fertilizes tees, greens and fairways, and under direct supervision of a certified applicator, sprays chemicals on landscaped areas.
  • Marks the course for cart control weekly; moves cart control barriers and replaces worn or lost ropes and signs; and may mark hazard and drop areas.
  • Helps in project work; assists in the construction of new greens, tees and fairways; grades and prepares soil base; lays sod; and seeds tees, greens and fairways.
  • Installs forms and lays walks and paths using gravel and asphalt mixes; excavates and backfills ditches and trenches with hand tools; repairs and replaces pipe on irrigation systems
  • May be trained and/or asked to operate specific mowers or other light equipment.
  • Use PPE’s as trained and required
  • Report safety or hazard concerns to management
  • Report job injury to Management immediately
  • Report golf course conditions to Golf superintendent, Lead Greenkeeper, or Pro shop

 

Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license with the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States of America.
  • Must posses at least one year of work related experience to landscape maintenance
  • Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn about the care and proper use of tools and equipment used in the development and maintenance of the irrigation system, greens, tees, fairways, hazards, bunkers, irrigation systems, and general grounds of the golf course.
  • Ability to quickly learn maintenance, care and construction of greens, tees, fairways, hazards, bunkers, irrigation systems and general grounds of the golf course.
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to learn about turf disease, insects, rodents, chemicals, and methods used to control these undesirable elements.
  • Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn about golf rules and play.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and the public.
  • Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Ability to distinguish between different materials, with the ability to read and understand label information.
  • Must have sufficient physical strength and ability to independently and repeatedly lift, move and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds and to repeatedly lift, move and carry objects weighing more than 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to work flexible hours with some weekend and holiday work required.
  • Ability to perform frequent overtime work.
  • Ability to report for work on time and perform the duties of the job for an entire workday.
  • Knowledge methods and materials used in grounds and landscape area construction/maintenance work.
  • Working knowledge and ability to use hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Ability to operate trucks and light motorized equipment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, write,  and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
