Position Overview

Herron High School Athletics is seeking a part-time Head Athletic Trainer to serve as a dedicated member of the Herron staff, providing athletic training coverage across both Herron High School and Herron Riverside. This individual will split time between the two campuses, covering home athletic contests, supporting return-to-play decisions and maintaining regular office hours for athlete check-ins and treatment. This is a part-time, hourly staff position running on the athletic calendar, August through June 2027.

Requirements

 Required Qualifications

  • Current Indiana licensure as an Athletic Trainer (LAT)
  • Current certification in CPR/AED and First Aid
  • Experience providing athletic training coverage and rehabilitation services in a high school or collegiate setting strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of IHSAA return-to-play and concussion management protocols
  • Reliable transportation between Herron High School and Herron Riverside
  • Strong communication skills — this role works directly with coaches, families, and school administration

Responsibilities

  • Provide athletic training coverage for home contests at Herron High School and Herron Riverside
  • Hold regular office hours across both campuses for athlete check-ins, treatment, and rehabilitation
  • Manage return-to-play protocols and documentation for injured athletes, including concussion management consistent with IHSAA and Indiana law
  • Coordinate care plans with coaches, families, and outside medical providers as needed
  • Maintain athlete injury records and communicate status updates to the Athletic Director and coaching staff
  • Support pre-season readiness, including equipment/supply checks and emergency action planning for both sites
