About the Department
Under the direction of the Street Supervisor, operates a variety of heavy equipment including trucks, rollers, sweepers, and other specialized pieces of heavy equipment necessary to maintain City streets.
Position Duties
1.Operates a loader, dump truck, backhoe, sweeper, skidsteer, vactor and othertypes of heavy equipment to construct, repair and maintain City infrastructure.
2.Drives heavy duty trucks to haul sand, gravel, asphalt, etc.
3.Operates a plow truck with various attachments and/or salt truck for snowremoval operations.
4.Operates air compressor pumps, saws, blowers, and other equipment.
5.Maintains vehicles and trucks. Also, keeps equipment clean and in good workingorder.
6.Performs a variety of general maintenance and labor chores in support ofdepartment staff.
7.Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
1.The job requires a high school diploma or GED.
2.Class A or B CDL Certification, and Hi-Lo License required.
3.Valid Michigan driver’s license and ability to pass a background check.
4.Two to four years experience operating heavy equipment related to park/streetmaintenance functions.
5.Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with other City staff in theexchange of information.
6. Ability to frequently handle pressures related to fulfilling schedule requirements and dealing with the concerns of citizens and employees.
7. Physical ability to frequently lift/push/pull/transport equipment and materials weighing up to 150 pounds. Ability to occasionally kneel/bend/stoop to accommodate different working positions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Work includes outside working conditions with frequent exposure to extreme hot or cold weather conditions.
2. Work includes frequent exposure to fumes, odors, dust, dirt, noise, and moving objects.
3. Work includes frequent exposure to environmental hazards associated with electrical, mechanical and/or power equipment as well as vibrating and moving mechanical parts.
4. Work includes some extended hour shifts, alternate work schedules, weekend and holiday work as needed. Limited approval of PTO (Paid Time Off) during Tulip Time, Winter Maintenance season, and during other events.
5. Must be available to respond to weather related and other emergency situations when contacted. Expected to respond to call outs.
