High School History Teacher and/or Secondary Special Education Teacher
 
​Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000 per year
Location: ​Don Watson Academy, Lancaster, MA
 
RFK Community Alliance is seeking a passionate High School History Teacher and/or Secondary Special Education Teacher to join Don Watson Academy, our therapeutic day school serving students ages 9–21 with social and emotional disabilities. Who We Seek
 
We're looking for an educator who is passionate about engaging students through meaningful, student-centered instruction while supporting their social-emotional growth. The ideal candidate creates a structured, inclusive classroom where students feel safe, respected, and motivated to learn. As a member of our collaborative educational team, you'll develop and deliver high-quality history instruction, monitor student progress toward academic and IEP goals, and partner with colleagues to meet each student's unique educational and therapeutic needs. You'll also have opportunities to lead experiential electives, contribute to school-wide activities, and help prepare students for successful post-secondary transitions.
 
Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging, student-centered history instruction that integrates social-emotional learning and self-regulation strategies.
  • Develop and monitor academic and skill-based goals aligned with IEPs, collaborating with the Educational Coordinator and interdisciplinary team.
  • Foster a trauma-informed, supportive classroom environment that promotes student growth and success.
  • Design and lead experiential elective courses based on student interests.
  • Participate in school events, transition programming, team meetings, supervision, and ongoing professional development.
  • Maintain a structured classroom that supports safety, learning, and social-emotional development.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Massachusetts teaching license in History or Moderate Disabilities (5–12) preferred
Hours
  • 37.5 hours per week: Monday – Friday, days; 12-month benefited position
