JOB TITLE:  

Box Office Manager 

JOB PURPOSE:   

The Box Office Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and daily operations of the box office, ensuring a seamless and positive experience for all patrons. This role oversees a team of box office attendants, house managers, and ushers, in addition to managing ticketing systems and financial reporting, coordinates with internal departments on event sales data, and plays a key supporting role during live events. The Box Office Manager maintains the integrity of all financial transactions, upholds discount and pricing policies, and serves as the primary point of operational guidance for box office staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

•    Supervise and manage a box office team of up to ten student employees, fostering a professional and service oriented work environment; Develop and maintain staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage for all operational hours, events, and peak periods; Provide ongoing coaching, training, and performance guidance to box office attendants; serve as the primary resource for staff questions and operational issues.

•    Oversee the creation and configuration of event ticketing within the TIX management system, ensuring accuracy in pricing, seating, and availability.

•    Administer and maintain the organization's discount and promotions system, ensuring all discount programs are applied accurately and in accordance with established policies.

•    Assist with event ushering and on-site ticketing operations during live events, providing hands-on support to ensure smooth patron entry and seating.

•    Manage the daily collection, reconciliation, and secure handling of all cash intake and box office revenue; Prepare and review daily financial reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal accounting standards; Oversee the preparation of invoices and event-related spreadsheets, maintaining organized and up-to-date financial records for all events and transactions.

•    Serve as the primary liaison for ticket sales data and patron attendance figures, responding accurately and promptly to reporting requests from internal and external departments; Communicate box office updates, event changes, and relevant operational information to appropriate staff and departments in a timely manner.

•    Assist in resolving patron concerns, ticketing disputes, and customer service issues in a professional, solutions-focused manner; Ensure that all patron interactions reflect the organization's commitment to exceptional service and hospitality.

 

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS: 

•    Assist with special projects, promotional initiatives, or organizational events that require box office support or staffing coordination.

•    Participate in departmental meetings, staff training sessions, and process improvement initiatives.

•    Maintain working knowledge of current ticketing technology and industry best practices to recommend system or workflow improvements.

•    Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

•    High school diploma or GED equivalent 

•    1–2 years of experience in box office, ticketing, retail, or customer service operations 

•    Basic cash handling and point-of-sale (POS) experience 

•    Demonstrated ability to supervise or lead others in a team setting 

•    Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office, email, spreadsheets) 

•    Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills 

•    Ability to work evenings, weekends, and event-based schedules

•   Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the Driving for University Business SAP. 

  

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:   

•    2–3 years of box office, venue, or event ticketing experience

•    Prior supervisory or lead experience managing a small team

•    Familiarity with ticketing platforms (e.g., TIX, Ticketmaster, AXS, SeatGeek, Eventbrite, or similar)

•    Experience reconciling cash drawers and preparing financial reports

•    Knowledge of discount/promotions management within a ticketing or retail system

•    Ability to remain composed and effective in a fast-paced, high-volume event environment
