Job Description

JOB TITLE: Housekeeping / Laundry Supervisor



SUPERVISOR: Administrator



WORK AREA: Entire facility



PURPOSE:



The purpose of this position is to implement and maintain efficient systems to operate the housekeeping and laundry departments in a cost-effective, efficient manner to safely meet residents needs in compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.



QUALIFICATIONS:



Must have high school education. Ability to read, write and speak English. Must have ability to follow oral and written instruction. Be in good physical, mental and emotional health. Must have ability to cooperate with and supervise employees. Have experience as a housekeeper or training in the area.



WORKING HOURS: Eighty (80) hours every two weeks as assigned.



WORKING CONDITIONS:



On feet most of the day. Pushes, pulls and lifts cleaning equipment and supplies. Exposed irregularly to infections when entering resident areas. Subject to reactions from heavy dust, housekeeping and disinfecting solutions. May be subject to falls or slipping on wet floors.



THIS POSITION REPORTS TO: Administrator



HIPAA MINIMUM NECESSARY:



Responsible to adhere to HIPAA MINIMUM NECESSARY guidelines and safeguard protected health information.



RESPONSIBILITIES:



Supervise and/or perform housekeeping and cleaning activities within established guidelines. Has overall responsibility of housekeeping / laundry department to assure that the building is kept clean, and linen is to be processed accordingly and up to standards.



DUTIES




  1. Establishes and follows cleaning schedules (i.e., daily, weekly, monthly).

  2. Supervises and/or cleans assigned areas, furnishings, fixtures according to housekeeping procedures.

  3. Supervises cleaning of floors: mopping, sweeping, disinfecting when and where necessary. Performs emergency housekeeping when necessary.

  4. Supervises cleaning of furnishings and fixtures, vacuuming and shampooing of carpeting.

  5. Inspects quality of work performed by housekeeping aides according to established checklist

  6. Supervises cleaning of bathrooms, walls, windows, doors and ceilings.

  7. Supervises and inspects terminal cleaning of residents rooms.

  8. Supervises cleaning of isolation units.

  9. Supervises operation of laundry.

  10. Inspects curtains and drapes; arranges for cleaning.

  11. Makes sure waste and trash are disposed of properly.

  12. Maintains inventory of furniture, physical assets, linen and other housekeeping items.

  13. Reports observations concerning structural and equipment wear, defects and malfunctions to Administrator.

  14. Requisitions supply and equipment needs for housekeeping and laundry.

  15. Maintains equipment used in performing housekeeping and laundry duties.

  16. Makes out time schedule for all housekeeping and laundry personnel.

  17. Authorizes employees to alter work schedules based on evaluation of the needs of the facility; uses personal judgment to authorize employees to take time off from scheduled duties when requested.

  18. Verifies actual time worked by employees.

  19. Authorizes over-time of employees and selects employees for over-time work.

  20. Notes all absences and tardies by employees; issues reprimands when appropriate; obtains substitutes as thought necessary.

  21. Evaluates housekeeping and laundry aides job performance. Makes recommendations for promoting, discharging, suspending, rewarding or disciplining housekeeping / laundry employees.

  22. Responsible for adherence by employees of all company rules and policies, is authorized to administer discipline as appropriate based on evaluation of the circumstances surrounding incidents.

  23. May make independent evaluation of employees performance independent of other management evaluations.

  24. Assigns work loads and submits time schedules for holidays and vacations to the Personnel Director.

  25. May terminate employees without prior approval for gross violation of rules, insubordination or resident abuse.

  26. Makes independent recommendations to the Administrator regarding employee hiring, retention and promotion.

  27. Performs other duties as directed by Administrator.
