Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

The Human Resources Generalist will support the Siena Francis House mission by supporting a broad range of HR functions to ensure the organization attracts, develops, and retains a talented and compassionate workforce. This role will be responsible for overseeing recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, performance management, and compliance with labor laws, all while fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace culture. The HR Generalist will play a key role in aligning human resources practices with the organization's core values of stewardship, advocacy, collaboration, integrity, innovation and compassion, helping staff provide essential support to individuals in crisis.
 

 ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Maintains employee records, ensuring completion and accuracy of details such as employee contact information, job classification, pay rates, organizational structure, and other key details.
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and other certifications.
  • Maintains accurate records of active job openings and received applications; manages internal and external job postings.
  • Reviews applications for entry-level and non-exempt positions; conducts and/or schedules preliminary interviews.
  • Ensures all pre-hire and post-hire onboarding activities are completed including background checks, pre-employment physicals, credential authentication, and employment eligibility verification.
  • Implements and leads new hire orientation, onboarding and employee recognition programs.
  • Assists with the administration of employee benefits, which may include collecting and submitting employee information and notice of change in status to health, dental, life, disability, and other insurance carriers or insurance brokers.
  • Processes required paperwork for employee transfers, changes in job classification, salary increases, and other related employment matters.
  • Review, implement and track reasonable accommodations for both clients and employees, including arranging for any necessary equipment, assistive technology, furniture and/or modifications to the organization’s facilities. 
  • Assists supervisors with performance concerns, disciplinary action and conflict management issues, referring complex/sensitive matters to the Director of Human Resources; Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Conducts or assists with record audits and mandatory reports, which may include I-9 audits, EEO-1 filings, payroll audits, and other compliance reviews.
  • Actively maintains a safe, healthy, and positive work environment that promotes the physical and emotional well-being of employees and participants.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and counseling skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll management, human resource information system (HRIS), and similar computer applications.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 

  • A minimum of three years of Human Resources experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in human resource management or related field or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • SHRM-CP or PHR highly desired.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT
