Job Description

The Peddie School is seeking a motivated and versatile HR Generalist to join our Human Resources team. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, this role carries two primary areas of ownership: comprehensive benefits administration and administration of UKG Ready (Peddie’s HR system), woven together with day-to-day HR operational and employee support.

The ideal candidate is curious, tech-savvy, and energized by variety: equally at ease troubleshooting a UKG system issue, walking an employee through open enrollment, building a process guide, responding to a data request, or greeting a walk-in at the front desk. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of meaningful work, grow across multiple HR disciplines, and contribute to a collaborative, close-knit team at a premier independent school.

Key Responsibilities

Benefits Administration

  • Own day-to-day administration of all employee benefits programs such as: medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, and FSA/HSA.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all employee benefits questions and issues, including walk-ins, calls, and email, resolving problems with professionalism and empathy.
  • Coordinate the annual open enrollment process: employee communications, vendor coordination, system updates, and confirmation audits.
  • Coordinate employee financial wellness and benefits education events, including annual benefits fairs and financial wellbeing seminars (e.g., TIAA)
  • Process new hire benefit enrollments, qualifying life event changes, and termination/COBRA notifications.
  • Monitor, review, and reconcile monthly benefits billing across all carriers; identify and resolve discrepancies and ensure accurate invoice payment.
  • Monitor benefit file feeds in UKG Ready: ensure carrier feeds are transmitting correctly, troubleshoot errors, and escalate feed issues with vendors or UKG Support as needed.
  • Process and track leaves of absence including FMLA, NJFLA/FLI, ADA accommodations, and personal leave; maintain complete and accurate documentation.
  • Support health and wellness program administration and employee communications.

UKG Ready System Administration & Reporting

  • Serve as the department's UKG Ready super user and go-to resource for system administration, troubleshooting, and ongoing optimization.
  • Manage user access: account setup, password resets, locking and unlocking accounts, and security protocols.
  • Contact and coordinate with UKG support to open, track, and drive resolution of service requests and system issues.
  • Help employees and managers navigate UKG Ready; serve as the internal trainer and create user guides as needed.
  • Respond to ad hoc HR data requests with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ensure data integrity, system security protocols, and confidentiality standards are upheld at all times.
  • Maintain accurate and complete employee personnel data in UKG Ready.

Other Responsibilities

  • Support recruitment activities including job posting, applicant tracking, and offer letter preparation as needed.
  • Support or coordinate all onboarding steps for new hires, as needed.
  • Coordinate all offboarding steps for departing employees: separation documents, systems access removal, final pay coordination, and COBRA  administration.
  • Assist with basic employee relations matters, responding to policy inquiries, escalating concerns to the Director of Human Resources appropriately, and maintaining strict confidentiality in all sensitive situations.
  • Support compliance efforts including I-9 audits, EEO-1 reporting, employment verifications, unemployment claims, and records retention.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating HR policies and the employee handbook; ensure employees have access to current policy information.
  • Create and maintain SOPs, user guides, and process documentation.
  • Contribute to wellness initiatives, employee engagement programs, and other projects as assigned by the Director of Human Resources.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by the Director of Human Resources.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in HR Operations.
  • Experience with HRIS platforms; prior experience with UKG Ready (formerly Kronos) preferred.
  • Solid working knowledge of benefits administration.
  • Familiarity with New Jersey employment law, including NJFLA, NJ FLI, and related state-specific requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; comfortable with Excel for reporting, reconciliation, and data analysis.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills; able to manage multiple priorities without dropping the ball.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a genuine customer-service orientation.
  • Experience in an educational institution or nonprofit a plus.

Key Attributes

  • Tech-Savvy: Picks up new systems quickly; eager to become the resident UKG Ready expert and go-to resource for others.
  • Curious & Self-Directed: Asks good questions, takes initiative, and proactively identifies what needs attention.
  • Organized & Dependable: Plans and prioritizes work effectively, executes reliably, and gets things done accurately and on time.
  • Versatile: Equally comfortable resolving a system issue, reconciling an invoice, researching a compliance question, or helping an employee face-to-face.
  • Collaborative Team Player: Thrives in a small, close-knit department where everyone pitches in.
  • Service-Minded: Treats every employee interaction, whether a quick walk-in or a complex benefits issue, with professionalism and care.
  • Discreet & Trustworthy: Handles sensitive employee information and confidential matters with absolute professionalism and integrity.

Compensation

Salary Range: $65,000 – $85,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

       Employment Type: Full-time, exempt position.
