Job Description
NWI Aerostructures is currently hiring an Inspector - Magnetic Penetrant And Dye Check at the Nashville, TN location. 

 

NWI Nashville LLC manufactures complex aerostructure components of commercial, business, and military aircraft worldwide. We specialize in complex, structural and mechanical assemblies, machined components, and sheet metal fabrication. 
 
Occupation Summary

This occupation requires the operation of magnetic, penetrant and dye check inspection equipment and the subsequent inspection for defects in ferrous and non-ferrous welded, forged, cast, raw and machined parts.
 
Work Performed

Inspects ferrous and non-ferrous parts in which defects have been detected or indicated by processing in magnetic testing, penetrant or dye check equipment and makes proper disposition. Visually examines iron oxide powder, penetrant oil or dye check patterns basing disposition (accepted, rejected, or rework) upon buildup, location, and course of pattern, depth and number of defects and nature of part and fabrication operations involved. Makes recommendation where defect can and should be eliminated by grinding or machining and approves rework method when parts are salvageable. Checks with proper personnel if oxide patterns reveal presence of inclusions of foreign substances. Plans and advises on method of setting up parts and operating magnetic and penetrant inspection equipment as directed. Loads parts, operates crane while processing, inspects, unloads parts and cleans and removes masking materials as necessary. Performs material hardness and conductivity

inspections as directed.


Determines amperage required to magnetize parts and uses demagnetizing equipment as required where specifications prohibit polarization.


Checks etch rate on etch tank and runs sample part daily.


Determines penetration time and emulsifier time if information is not in specifications.


Determines proper sequence of dips and rinses.


Determines whether parts are to be magnafluxed, penetrant inspected or dye checked and whether parts can be etched.


Stamps parts, tags, shop orders, and prepares paperwork and parts as required. Must obtain a magnetic and penetrant inspection certificate and have eyes checked yearly.


Performs duties incidental to the accomplishment of the assigned task.


Each employee will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and housekeeping in his work area as directed as well as assuring the accuracy of their work.
 
This position requires the ability to work any shift due to the union work environment and possible mandatory overtime.

Minimum Qualifications

Normally two (2) years operation of magnetic, penetrant and dye check inspection equipment is required. Must understand magnetic, penetrant and dye check inspection procedure and work from contract, engineering and military specifications. Must take written test yearly. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret specifications and blueprints and ability to qualify for various levels of non-destructive inspections.
