Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE:
This is a part-time position that delivers interdistrict (“Pony Mail”) to MESD school sites and
component districts by driving MESD vehicles to perform loading, pick-up, and delivery of
interdistrict mail Tuesdays and Thursdays during the year.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Make pickups and deliveries locally for schools, ESD’s, departments, and programs in a
safe and timely manner. Specific duties depend on assignments and may include
department specific deliveries.
2. Contact customers and arrange deliveries, plan delivery routes and schedules, perform
loading and unloading tasks, and complete assembly and installation of materials as
needed.
3. Perform customer service duties to keep up communications and help solve problems
with deliveries or pickups to local school districts or other locations.
4. Operate MESD hi-cube vans, and other equipment, including Class C motor vehicles,
perform service and preventive maintenance, and make sure vehicles are in good
running order and are kept clean inside and out. Also report problems to supervisory
personnel.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Maintain a working knowledge of MESD transportation services and perform training and
cross-training assignments.
2. Perform other related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed equally indoors and outdoors. The work involves physical ability involved in cleaning, lifting of objects in excess of 80 lbs., and driving. Employees are exposed to cleaning chemicals, vehicles, material handling, equipment and machinery used in maintenance, and waxing and buffing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to operate motor vehicles, including Class C motor vehicles, in a defensive
manner to avoid accidents and with a driving record acceptable to agency insurance
carriers.
Ability to communicate effectively with other employees, individuals and groups, and
students using tact, courtesy and good judgment.

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, policies and procedures
with accuracy and attention to detail to meet deadlines.
Ability to physically perform assigned duties.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma, or G.E.D., or any combination of education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability to perform the job. Requires State of Oregon Department of Transportation Class C certification or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.

2. Ability to squat, crawl and or run often as required to perform job duties. Involves
