About the Department
The Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) is one of Georgia's four health agencies serving the state's growing population of over 10 million people. DCH serves as the lead agency for Medicaid, oversees the State Health Benefit Plan (SHBP) and Healthcare Facility Regulation, impacting one in four Georgians.
Through effective planning, purchasing and oversight, DCH provides access to affordable, quality health care to millions of Georgians, including some of the state's most vulnerable and under-served populations. Position Duties
Interact with constituents via the call center
Determine appropriate report based on customer’s needs
Conduct data entry reviews on each report to ensure reporting and regulatory guidelines are met.
Make program related determinations based on State and Federal Regulations
Create appropriate triage determinations based on the analysis of severity of reports
Support Regional Directors in scheduling onsite inspection/complaint investigations.
Verify data and monitor compliance of licensed Healthcare facilities with agency policy and procedures.
Work with others to provide strategic analysis.
Performs administrative duties and statistical, or compliance data analysis and reporting in support of management decision making in functional area.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience in data or statistical analysis, preferably in a healthcare setting
Ability to work with highly confidential and sensitive PHI/PII information
Proficient in Medicaid and data analysis reporting tools (e.g. Business Objects, Advantage Suite, and/or DataProbe
Microsoft Office Suite Applications
Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS)

The internship position is for the Healthcare Facility Regulation Division (HFRD), Intake and Triage Unit at the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH).
How will the daily responsibilities align with the learning objectives created for this role?
The intern's daily responsibilities, such as interacting with complainants & constituents, conducting data entry reviews, assisting with program-related compliance determinations, and shadowing the intake & triage process per the State Operations Manual, will align with the learning objectives by providing practical experience in healthcare regulation, compliance monitoring, data analysis, and customer service. Conducting a thorough review and analysis of call center interactions and triage reports.
Creating comprehensive reports on compliance data and regulatory adherence.
Developing strategic analyses to improve understanding of Federal Rules and Regulations applicable to healthcare.
Assisting in the scheduling and preparation of onsite inspections and complaint investigations.
Participating in verification projects to ensure accuracy and compliance with State of Georgia Healthcare Rules and Regulations.

Yes, we are committed to providing mentorship and coaching during the internship. Our Senior Manager of Regulatory Services, Ms. Kelly Bowles, RN, BSN, will be assigned as a mentor to offer guidance, support professional development, and help the intern navigate their role and responsibilities effectively as well as help them work with other colleagues within the department.
