Position Title: Janitorial Lead

Department: Janitorial

Position reports to: Housekeeping & Janitorial Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


Job Summary:

Assists Housekeeping & Janitorial Manager with coordinating, planning, and overseeing the work activities of all janitorial staff including overnight staff. Is responsible for staffing so that each facility has daily maintenance routines completed while maintaining high quality standards.

This is a dual role working as a janitor performing cleaning and maintenance functions, while supervising other janitorial staff, overseeing their work, resolving employee issues through problem resolution, coaching and mentoring, and performance management.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead for janitorial staff and assists in supervisory duties as needed by Housekeeping & Janitorial Manager. This may include hiring, firing, disciplinary actions, evaluations, scheduling, timecard management.
  • May cover for Housekeeping Lead as needed, so cross-training in Housekeeping is required 
  • Proactively serves as the eyes and ears of the Club by continuously monitoring the Club and Athletic buildings for cleanliness, identifying maintenance and housekeeping concerns, and taking appropriate action or reporting issues to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
  • Conducting staff meetings as needed. 
  • Coordinates and supervises activities of workers engaged in janitorial services.
  • Communicate with other department heads ensuring all work assignments are done appropriately. 
  • Inspects work performed to ensure conformance to specifications and established standards.
  • Works with manager to create a quality assurance program and make recommendations to improve and consistently deliver on best-in-class services. 
  • Trains new workers, recommends personnel actions, such as hires and discharges, to ensure proper staffing.
  • Acts as a Club representative to members in the athletic facility, assists in handling member complaints with professionalism.
  • Assists in locker room as needed
  • Follows all regulatory and safety requirements
  • Performs basic janitorial services throughout the facility.
  • Consistently identify and resolve cleanliness issues. 

Qualifications

  • Two or more years’ experience in supervision in janitorial or housekeeping required.
  • Highschool Diploma or GED; Associate degree in business management or facilities management preferred
  • Flexibility to work overnights, weekends, and day shifts as needed.
  • This is a highly visible, member-facing position that requires constant professionalism and excellent customer service.
  • Proactive and able to identify issues with cleanliness or equipment issues and resolving the issues without directive.
  • Requires leadership and a demonstrated ability to lead people and get positive results through others.

Required Physical Abilities: 

  • Manual dexterity and ability to operate heavy equipment such as floor waxers; electric floor scrubbers; extractors and commercial grade carpet shampoo equipment
  • Climb ladders and work several feet off the ground as in cleaning chandeliers and vacuuming tall drapery
  • Lift and transfer up to 50 pounds of unbalanced weight frequently for garbage removal and walk up/down a sloped surface to the dumpster
  • Bend and reach overhead to move items to clean and to stock towels and to remove soiled towels 
  • See at a close range for detail cleaning
  • Clean stairs and stairwells
  • Push and pull equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor waxers, floor scrubbers, carpet shampoo equipment for extended periods of time
  • Work while standing and walking for most of shift
  • Apply pressure while cleaning such as pumice stone toilets and urinals
  • Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies
